"Hulk was losing it? Pfft. Hulk could have held those orbs apart for as long as he needed to. After holding them apart, He punched one of them into deep space, creating a supernova-like explosion. Hulk said, "Bug-man finally believes that Hulk is the strongest one there is?" He was certainly not losing it."
He was certainly losing it, Spiderman states as such and proccedes to change tactics before that happened. That part was also show in the comic. In no means its a same for the Hulk, he managed the impossible there. Its now one of my favourite strenght feats.
"he struggled like hell to hold up that mountain range in secret wars"
For example. Its not like he has lifted everything without showing signs of making an effort. No mater how strong someone is.
"the 12 labors are . . . skirted by most writers. they DO come up on occasion, but they are rarely dwelled upon and it is never clear if they did indeed happen - at least it's unclear if they happened exactly the way they did in the myths. i can't imagine any writer would ever come right out and say herc held the earth or (even less likely) the 'heavens' - it would be too far beyond what most characters can be reasonably shown to do."
I agree. But its something they have to handle if theyr using - the - mythological character and not just someone named after him. The flasbacks so far of the labours have been without a change. Most notably in Herc`s last mini. The names and events wer all correct. Now on showing it lies the problem. They would - have - to make him stronger than pretty much anyone except a pissed off savage Hulk.
Wich is how Tieri said he would write Herc. Well see how that turns out. The labours are indeed cannon and something did happen in that particular one, now how he did it..what wer the conditions etc? Who knows.
"I was giving you props...the strength comment was for CC"
Thats what you get by replying late. Didnt saw the comment for CC. Sorry. 😛
You just had to, didn't you leo?
I'd give Thanos a good healthy majority, if only because of sheer unkillableness and the capacity to put Superman down. He's a lot mroe versatile than people really give him credit for though... His matter manipulation is top notch, and I don't think I've ever seen someone pull a successful speedblitz on him, regardless of their actual speed capabilties. He hasn't really done any physical speed feats of note, but does he need to? The chair is hella badass.
I still think it's questionable who would win this fight.
A lot of feats would point towards Thanos...
However.
In that other thread was pics of Thor swinging or throwing the hammer at Thanos and having him sprawled out.
If he could do, Superman punching him surely could [save the time he was using magic as well, but sometimes he was just beating Thanos with it]
Its wierd though when ODIN couldn't keep him down, and a number of other times high powered guys couldn't down him like Thor was.
Then of course, the speedblitz/flying arguement, which Thanos has seems to have trouble dealing with. .
i think it WOULD be a good fight, jun. but thanos has consistently been shown to handle these types so while i think supes could put up a fight, i can't really see him winning -- least not often and not without so very good, or very convincing writing.
to answer a couple of dizzle's points -- ss DID seem to have a chance at a speedblitz attack when he missed the gauntlet in the IG saga. and i've never really seen him manipulate matter. when did you see this, diz?

Here is a very old matter manipulation feat from thanos
nice khan. i'd completely forgotten that scene! however, i don't think there's really been anything he's done currently to suggest matter manipulation without tech. unless someone of course has another example. it's still up in the air how he teleports. more often than not he uses his tech or ship to move him around. i' still not sure if anyone's come up with a definitive example of him teleporting without tech assistance.

Oh come on. People have posted numerous scans of thanos teleporting without tech. Marvel says he can teleport without tech. What do you want, exactly? A comic entitled, "Thanos can teleport without tech leonidas!!! IT's true!!!"
And where is the indication taht he used tech in that pic? Or in the IG saga? Most the enemies he fights has matter manipulation even better than his, so of course he's not going to use it often. You think he can turn galactus into a pickle?
There seems to be some weird default that any time thanos does anything, it must be with tech unless proven otherwise. Can thanos walk without tech? Can he see without tech? Can he relieve himself without tech?

Now wait a minute. You call me a fanboy, yet you think superman beating thanos would be "very good" or "convincing" writing?
That's like a wolverine fan saying the lobo xover was "very good" and "convincing" writing.
He thinks it's "very good" and "convincing" because he likes the character who wins. Not because it makes any damn sense.

Supe just a classic hero. And yeah he takes way too underestimated. If Superman would spend an hour in sun would put Thanos down in a couple of seconds. Superman Prime would just kill him with a single punch. Thanos IS gettin' way too much credit. He is overrated.
Speaking of propositions without proof... people always say that sun-boosted superman is vastly powerful. Yet we have this:
This is against an ice being who explicitly states that she's being weakened by the sun's fire, and is subsequently trapped by the sun's gravity (albeit after being hit with a kryptonite grenade). Superman can't break her grip until Lois in a Kryptonian warsuit shows up...

dude, you need to relax. you woking on forum overdrive or something? i said 'HE MORE OFTEN THAN NOT TELEPORTS USING TECH!!' not 'that he can't,' though it HAS been an issue in the past. how does he get off and on his ship in the thanos series? he uses tech. he seems to rarely port under his own power.
and i happen to think supes is stronger, faster and more durable than thor. i also think you're estimation of darkseid relative to thanos is wrong, and yes i'd say supes could give thanos a run for his money. as many others do. realize that some will NOT share your views and interpretations, not out of stupidity or dislike of YOU personally, but becasue they disagree with your INTERPRETATION of events. cripes, we can't even look at a SCAN and see it the same way!
stop trying so hard.

That last panel shows that they aren't in the sun, just next to it. Besides, this is sundipped Superman versus Thanos, not Superman vs. Thanos on the surface of the sun.
