Some people seem to forget that Thanos has a high degree of mystical expertise, as well as telepathic expertise. Thanos could literally make Superman feel as if he were moving in slow motion, or assault Superman with mysticism.
The problem with Superman facing Thanos is that Thanos can exploit Supermans weakness to mental prodding, and mystical assaults. Max Lord took full control over Superman, and had him nearly kill Batman. Thanos could do the same.
Thanos messed with Galactus' mind and assaulted him mystically at the same time, does anyone believe that if he was able to screw with Galactus, that he woulld have a hard time dealing with Superman?
Speed is one thing, but if you can't find an opponent to hit, or find the one assaulting you, you're most likely going to lose. Hey Bada Superman is outclassed, maybe you should close this thing down, and declare Thanos the winner. Just a thought.

Thanos is more versatile than Darkseid, if Superman thinks he can take down Thanos like he did Darkseid, Superman is in a rude awaking 😄 .
