And anyone who does not obey gets sent to an eternity of hellfire and torment....

You know we just went over this. The Bible does not teach this, so give up trying to use it.

What does God do with sinner in your opinion?

The original word translated as eternity does not mean forever. It does indicate a lengthy period of time however. But, the Bible teaches that at the end of this and after the final Judgement the unsaved will be utterly annihilated.

Eze 28:19 All they that know thee among the people shall be astonished at thee: thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt thou be any more.
'Be' is better translated as 'become'.
'Never shalt thou be any more' is better translated 'you shall not be for ever.'

Psa 37:20 But the wicked shall perish, and the enemies of the LORD shall be as the fat of lambs: they shall consume; into smoke shall they consume away.

To the first passage I say crazy wha?

In the second there does seem to be mention of fire (either hellfire or a cookout I can't tell) as well as canabalism or something.

If you look it up in its context you will see that it is in relation to Sheol.

Canabalism? 😆

God ate em..........lol1

Umm . . . could you just tell me how you translate the passage?

I saw "become as the fat of lambs" and "consume away" before anything else (think there's something Freudian about that?)

Besides it was a joke.

I know it was joke. Maybe I should have put the laugh before the question?

Basically the passage says that God will bring forth a fire in the midst of these people (in reference to some hardcore sinners) and that the fire will consume them. People will be astonished and they will 'not be for ever'. In other words the fire (ie. hell) will utterly consume them.

So its just a declaration by God that the sinners will cease to exist? Guess that not so bad (better than classic versions of hell at least)

Well, its not as bad and it still keeps Hitler out of heaven. Win-win.

Oh No ? 😬

"The sinners in Zion are afraid; fearfulness hath surprised the hypocrites. Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings?"(Isaiah 33:14)

Everlasting Burnings?

Sounds ETERNAL to me..... 😬

"The sorrows of hell compassed me about: the snares of death prevented me." (Psalms 18:5)

According to Matthew, Hell is place of definate Torment

"But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth." (Matthew 8:12)
"And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth." (Matthew 13:42)

"Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast [him] into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth." (Matthew 22:13)

"And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth." (Matthew 25:30)

"And shall cut him asunder, and appoint [him] his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth." (Matthew 24:51)

Weeping...hmmm....

"Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;" (2 Thessalonians 1:9)

Everlasting Destruction ?

How can destruction be everlasting ? True Destruction is final...unless, this destruction occurs for all eternity, not just in one shot, and it's over...

Everlasting Destruction means decay of the soul.....if it was simple nullification from existance, then it wouldn't be everlasting destruction, only permanent destruction.

"Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house: For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment."

Place of Torment

Again.....torment is involved...not just destruction.....

"And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal."

Everlasting punishment ? Hmmm.......

"Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and cast [them] from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire." (Matthew 18:8)

The Everlasting Fire implies..... ?

"But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation:"

Eternal Damnation

"The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:" (Revelation 14:10)

TORMENTED WITH FIRE AND BRIMSTONE...IN THE PRESENCE OF THE HOLY ANGELS ! AND IN THE PRESENSE OF THE LAMB !

Doesn't say destroyed or annihilated in fire and brimstone..it clearly says TORMENTED according to Revelations....

Every time you see the word "hell" in the Bible, you need to replace it with "Gehenna."

Wow, Urizen if you read my post (which I posted twice for your benefit) you would see that the words for eternity and everlasting do not mean forever in the terms that you know it. It refers until the end of an age. The age is until the final judgement. Then comes what in the Bible is called the second death (ie. destruction). If you like I can do a more formal and detailed description of all the different meanings.

Gehenna is used in the NT only, but Feceman is right. Hades is the equivalent to Sheol according to the descriptions given with it. Tartarus and the Lake of Fire (ie. destruction) seem to be equivalent.

You would replace it with sheol. (Which, roughly, means "the grave."😉

We just went over this.

However, I think that 'the grave' is such a weak translation because it does not distinguish between Sheol and keber (the literal grave).

Are we talking about the place where souls resat until judgment is upon them? Kind of like heavens waiting room? How beetlejuice.

Yes, yes, and okay.
