Every time you see the word "hell" in the Bible, you need to replace it with "Gehenna."

You would replace it with sheol. (Which, roughly, means "the grave."😉

We just went over this.

If The Bible is inerrant, then why is there a need for substitutions?

Wow, Urizen if you read my post (which I posted twice for your benefit) you would see that the words for eternity and everlasting do not mean forever in the terms that you know it. It refers until the end of an age. The age is until the final judgement. Then comes what in the Bible is called the second death (ie. destruction). If you like I can do a more formal and detailed description of all the different meanings.

I just love the whole "You're not intepretting the Bible correctly" argument.... 😆

Eternal and Everlasting do not have the current meaning they do today ? 🙄

So Eternal and Everlasting don't really mean ETERNAL AND EVERLASTING, they mean something else ?

Reminds me of the time you and I had that argument over the definition of the word Choice

I LOVE how you play with words, and skew thier original meanings to fit your own.....

Gehenna is used in the NT only, but Feceman is right. Hades is the equivalent to Sheol according to the descriptions given with it. Tartarus and the Lake of Fire (ie. destruction) seem to be equivalent.

Tarturus and Hades are Pagan...The Bible forbids Paganism....end of story.

No, I am not changing the meaning of the words. Everlasting and eternity are mistranslations. I'd be more than happy to go over the Greek. I have skewed nothing in my favour. I am actually going to the original so as to remove the skewing. This isn't interpretation this is a language debate.

And you don't use words to make stuff up? Some of your threads come to mind...

Exactly they are pagan. Good thing they are literary devices used in the language switch over. The words lack their pagan meanings in the Bible however.

If The Bible is inerrant, then why are there mistranslations?

Because people screw up sometimes. I do believe that the message survived uncorrupted, and that it being in English is a good thing so that people can read it that don't know Greek. But, when it comes down to the nitpicking and looking deeper the English is insufficient. The original is inerrant and has been preserved amazingly well. I also trust that we have not lost anything important.

A more direct answer is that these are not really mistranslations (as they are the closest English words to the real meaning). However, if one doesn't connect the real meaning when they read the words it becomes misinterpreted.

The Bible is a great book, a relic of history, which I beleive everyone should read and be exposed to.

However, it is unfounded to claim that the Bible is Absolute Truth.....

No, The Bible is not a great book. But that really depends on your opinion and how you define great.

The bible has shaped the western world. Would that count as a great book?

Yes it certainly is !

Being "Great" does NOT equal being "good or bad"...I mean Great in the terms of influence and power.

Adolf Hitler was a GREAT speaker.... Genghis Kahn was a GREAT conqueror, Lionesses are GREAT Hunters...etc.

The Bible, without any positive or negative conotation, is objectively, and dare I say, factually, a Great Book.

Well, I would say so, but The Bible has also destroyed the minds of many, which isn't great. Then again, without the Bible, I wouldn't be called Andrew. So here here for the Bible.

There is debate whether anything that is said in the Bible is actually true, let alone being a relic of history.

The bible is vague, and it cannot be interpreted any other way than what is actually being said. So, for all of those who say the bible speaks metaphorically or symbolically, you can just throw that argument out the window because the only one who would know that for sure is the one, or ones, who wrote the damn bible. And they, my friends, are dead.

You are using the word "great" differently then I am using the word. If a comet hit the Earth and killed most of the living things on the planet, it would be a great comet, but not great to us.

Ah, yes, you're using great as in big, huge, extreme. Well, I guess the bible is great in that context.

I agree with you, but what is your point ?

I am not arguing about whether or not the Bible is valid, you already know I don't trust the Bible as Truth.....that's not the point.

Objectively, the Bible is a Great Book.

The effect it has had on history is undeniable, whether good or bad is irrelevant.

Like Shaky said....if a comet destroyed us all, it would be a great comet...not a good comet, but a great one.

Great as in impressive you mean.

Yes the bible certainly fits that description.

Jesus said "This water shall be your wine." Does that mean Jesus made water into wine for his disciples to drink? Or was that merely metaphoric?

You decide, but if you had any sense, you would know that was a metaphor.
