On the bright side, if Captain America doesn't succeed -and I bet it will- the movie itself won't get all the blame and there's a chance for a sequel or what have you.
However, Green Lantern is a such a huge disaster all on it's own.
Seriously, what a mess. Anyone who places it on the level of Thor or X-men.....Well, an individual could enjoy it as much as the other two but the movie even from a film making perspective is more flawed.

No one's a big fan of that movie. Critics went easy on it because they saw the idea of the X-Men being about prejudice, and they liked that. Thing is no credit is due there to the movie. Thats just the concept of the X-Men. But as far as how well the film brought that world to the big screen, it was rubbish.

Captain America will not do well. Stop counting your chickens before they hatch. And calling GL horrid seems a bit overboard.
From what Ive heard from ordinary movie goers its not bad at all, and probably much better than most of Marvel's mediocre movies which are ruining the Comic Book movie industry. The result of what Marvel is doing can already be seen with X-Men First Class. A great movie, which just can not hit the big bucks, because people are getting fed up of it.

No, Green Lantern is struggling because it was a overpriced, special effect heavy movie with not enough direction and very little soul. It was a messy, horridly reviewed movie that people talked about being horrid. Therefore, word of mouth spread and people decided they didn't want to waste their time on it. Maybe, had it been as good as Thor, for example; it would have sold better.
I will definitely hold you to that. Captain America is going to do quite well I'd imagine. It's coming out in the most patriotic month of the year and there looks to be little competition with it; especially in terms of Super hero competition.
Critics reviews dnt mean jack.. Stop acting as if it does.. Thats smart about the way they're releasing Captain America, Il give you that. But just look at the trailer. It looks completely stupid. Wnt be as good as GL. But might make more profit due to DC not budgeting very well with GL.
^ Actually saying Spidey should have easily made a billion was probably a bit on top for those days.. But at least 900 mill. Like The First Star Wars prequel, Harry potter and LOTR movies all made in those days..
Whilst Spidey with all the hype, and all the kids taking their families to watch it, made only 800 mill.. Even years later and with all the hype to Spidey 3 it couldn't make 900.
TDK was the first comic book movie to make it in the big leagues. And that was a movie kids couldn't even watch.
Seeing as there isn't a thread in the general movie forum I'll voice my opinion in here.
Don't know all that much about the Green Lantern comics so everything story wise and how it relates to the comics isn't something I can speak on so my criticisms are entirely about the stand alone movie.
1st off the CGI was absolutely piss poor. I've seen movies made 10 years ago that look better (Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within as an example)
There is close on no action...Literally 5 minutes...Not what you expect from a comic book movie at all...As an origin movie you expect it to be slow...But not that slow.
Overall....Not good at all...Hate to say it but Marvel movies are a lot better than DC movies...And DC is leaving their hopes in the hands of Zach Snyder...Hmmm...I worry.

Watchmen was great &one of the most underrated movies ever. I was pissed when it flopped &the POS Wolvie movie made more
& the 2Nolan films combined haven't beaten 2 of the 3 Spidey films combined IIRC. Spidey's still the biggest franchise.
^ Nah a Superman movie with some decent action will easily make Iron man money.. A good script on top would would beat the Spiderman movies.
Superman the movie is still the greatest ever comic book movie. And its just the name Superman, its a name every household knows. Iron Man or Avengers cant ever compete with that not unless the Superman movie is pretty dull (Superman Returns)..
Smallville is a good example of the kind of success the name Superman brings with a decent story.
And 2 spidey films making more than Nolan's Bat movies is because Batman Begins didnt have the hype Spidey did, but once everyone saw how good it was, TDK showed what a big franchise this is.
It was the same with Pirates of the Carribean. The only POTC movie not to make a Billion dollars was the first one. Even though thats prob the best one and the one that started off the hugely successful franchise.
I'm not sure if the general public cares about him that much anymore. The appeal of Smallville 4me was "this is Supes BEFORE he got corny".
The Superman movie is far from the greatest. Singer seems to have agreed w/you & that's part of the reason SR was so horrible. They shoulda made an original movie instead of just rehashing the Donner films. They don't really hold up when watched today. I'm hoping they're creative this time around. It's not gonna be easy to write a good Supes film IMHO.
Begins had decent hype, just wasn't that great. I totally agree on TDK tho. Batman is a MAJOR player in this &until we get a good DC universe film that's not his, he's the ONLY one DC's got.
This is the last time I'll waste my dissecting skills on you're third grade argumentative abilities.

Notice I left your spelling and grammatical mistakes in tact for you...
No! I don't! Thanks so much for asking me I'd be lost without you. Man. Spider-man. Who is he again?
Do you have any idea who Spidey is?
He's among the top 3 A- Listers.Hard to gauge overall but yes, he's definitely among the most popular comic characters.
Do you have any idea how much hype there was for that movie??Unlike you, I was an adult when it came out, so yes, I remember it was pretty hyped and a very rewarding movie experience.
Just about everyone wanted to see Spidey on the big screen. And they did, but in the end it was mainly kids taking their families to watch it again and again that made it money. This is one of your most laughable arguments. A kid calling out movies for being watched by kids. Guess what, kids don't pay the bills or drive their families to movie theaters. Adults and teenagers are the ones with the money. And that is the audience that gives movies their money.
It was gna make money regardless, but if that movie was actually a good movie it would have made a billion easy..As I recall the first two Spider-man movies made 800 million JUST IN THE STATES ALONE. And there is NOTHING easy about making a billion dollars. By saying that you're trivializing the feat that The Dark Knight pulled off. I got nothing but respect for Dark Knight and Chris Nolan. You however, have nothing intelligent to add to this discussion.
Please, PLEASE start cleaning up your horrid typing. Go back to school or something. My eyes are starting to bleed. I can only take so much "Batman Foreve" and total lack of punctuation..... Batman Forever was not a decent movie. It was sub-par, especially when compared to the stellar 89' Batman and the two reboots.
Well thats just your bad taste. Batman Foreve was a decent movie, but made more for teenagers and was a hit among that target audience. Whilst Only a 5 year old could enjoy Spiderman 3, and thats because they're clueless to the story.
😆 Green Lantern is already one of the worst reviewed comic movies in history. Not only that, but it finished with the 21st highest opening weekend in comic movie history. Yes, it is FAR superior...
Its one of the worst no doubt. I can pretty much guarantee Green Lantern will be a far superior movie.
OH! Hitting me where it hurts! My grammatical errors!Well, that's what's wrong with America today. Kids no longer care about schooling and correct literacy. They abbreviate everything into neanderthal-like text messages and hope that the person receiving it is just as brainless as they are. You should be annoyed that someone calls you out on that, but I'm definitely not surprised that you aren't.
A sure sign your arguments are just getting seriously desperate now!Yes, I'm desperate. Desperately wishing you'd go back and finish school and give your kids a better chance at life than you.
Actually, I'm judging you by your responses and horrid grammatical errors. So I guess I'm hoping and expecting that you're a child based off those factors. If you're not, then I'm suddenly feeling pretty sorry for you...
Oh here we go.. The accusation of being a child.. Funny thing is its always the childish one who throws that one out first.. Hmm..
😆 There we go again! Thanks, no idea who the bloke is! I'll have to look him up I guess...
Urmm.. A guy named Superman maybe.. Ever heard of him..
I guess I'd agree with you there. It wasn't good, but was decent.
And Watchmen was decent..
Actually, the Spider-man franchise is still the biggest comic book franchise to date. Although Nolan's Batman franchise will likely surpass it with Dark Knight Rises.
They've got the biggest franchise Batman..
And it wouldn't take much work to make Superman the 2nd biggest.. Id rather have the top 2, than a whole bunch of B-List ones which are actually putting people off Comic Book Movies generally.Actually, at this point, it would take a TON of work to make Superman the second biggest. Are you kidding me? We haven't had a good Superman movie since the 80's. And your assumption that Marvel is putting people off is again, dare I say it; childish...
Yes it will. I'm not, judging by the quality of the trailer and the actors they've gotten to play the main roles, this will be a very fun movie.
Captain America will not do well. Stop counting your chickens before they hatch.
And calling GL horrid seems a bit overboard. Not really, judging by what DC expected it to do, it has been nothing but horrid. Expectations are often hard to live up to.
😖igh: You sound like a broken record. Marvel, again, is not the one putting out bad movies lately. All three of their movies this year look to be great. DC has one stinker. Do the math, or is that too much to ask of you?
From what Ive heard from ordinary movie goers its not bad at all, and probably much better than most of Marvel's mediocre movies which are ruining the Comic Book movie industry. The result of what Marvel is doing can already be seen with X-Men First Class. A great movie, which just can not hit the big bucks, because people are getting fed up of it.
Yes, they do. DC fanboys would be rubbing it in our faces if Thor and X-men came out and were as poorly received as Lantern. I know from experience. X-3 got roasted by the DC fanboys, deservedly so. Reviews MATTER. So do sales. Both areas that Green Lantern looks to not live up to.
Critics reviews dnt mean jack.. Stop acting as if it does..
Thats smart about the way they're releasing Captain America, Il give you that. But just look at the trailer. It looks completely stupid.Really? Most people I've talked to are ecstatic about it (ecstatic means very excited, thought I'd help you out).
Wnt be as good as GL.Well, I admit, it would be HARD to beat a 39/100 metacritic score and a 26% on Rotentomatoes...wait... no, it wouldn't.
But might make more profit due to DC not budgeting very well with GL.It will almost assuredly be better AND more profitable than Green Lantern. And that's pretty sad because Lantern is a cool comic character. Oh well. You still have Batman. 😉

Watchmen was a hard sale, so I can understand why it didn't do so well. Superman Returns wasn't THAT bad. Seriously it had it's moments and was better than some of Marvel's crappy movies like FF or GR.
BTW, I want to see a JLA movie. GL with Batman should be fun.

That movie was OK at best. Iv yet to meet anyone who says that movie was awsome. You can throw "critics reviews" around all you want and thats what makes you a terrible debator. No real views for yourself, just going by critical reviews. How sad..
It was a big disappointment. And not because "lol they got their powers wrong lol".. Incredible Hulk with Edward Norton was a good movie, despite the character being no where near as powerful as his comic counterpart.
Whilst Ang Lee's Hulk was much closer in terms of "powers" but a terrible movie! Oh yes thats right, Hulk was actually a very well known Comic book hero who Marvel have killed for the big screen, and are now finding it difficult to win audiences back towards.
Just take a look at the first 2 episodes of the 90's X-Men animation. Rise of the Sentinels. That would have made a damn good movie (which incidentally would have dealt with the mutant prejudice topic in a far superior way), instead of the rubbish that they made, just focusing around Wolverine.

This above all else proves how dense you really are.
Kids nag their parents to go watch a film. Parents go with kids and end up spending a family full of tickets at the cinema. Parents go watch because kids want to, not because they want to.
But like I said that movie had A LOT of hype. There were A LOT of adults who wanted to check out Spidey on the big screen, so did. But at most said it was OK. Pretty disappointed really. I actually remember people walking out they got so bored.

And again we're judging movies either by critics reviews or box office success. Do you even have an opinion of your own? Do you have the intellect to form one?
If your going by reviews then you should admit Superman Returns was a good movie. If your going by box office success then admit Incredible Hulk was terrible. Going by both then Blade was not a good movie Lol.
You see I can watch a movie without looking at what critics say, or the box office achievements and tell you how good or bad the movie was. And I usually end up giving the views of your average movie goer. Try it sometime.

No Im not annoyed. I wouldn't have the qualifications I have today if I wasn't educated. I wouldn't be able to do the job I do today or communicate with clients the way I do if I was uneducated or if my Grammar was ImProper.
I think someone pointing out mistakes in my "texting fashion" fast typing on a comic book movie forum, is the one with the real issues.
Like I said you have serious superiority issues. You should probably see someone about that. I doubt your doing anything useful with your life. And whats wrong with America??? Now, getting back to Green Lantern...
Saw it today and I must say it's not worthy of the lowly 26% that it received from Rottentomatoes. It's also not as bad as a 39/100 metascore.
But it still wasn't that good. I'd say it's decent, but Hal Jordan still deserved a better movie. Sinestro was portrayed greatly, but I guess my main issue was with Parallax and his whole plot-line. Special effects were pretty bland honestly.
Overall I'd give it a 6.5/10.
My friends who saw it said it wasn't horrible but would have been better as a TV movie or mini series.
Originally posted by Prep-ManIt was boring....but you enjoyed it 😕 &Spacey was a great LL &the fact that they put him in this boring film means they wasted him too. How many times have you seen it?
Didn't say it did, but I enjoyed SR for the most part. It was boring, but far from a waste of time, IMO. Kevin Spacey was a decent Lex Luthor, too. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.
I can't think of any actors in that movie who did a BAD job. To me it's like they put a ton of time, money, special effects & acting talent into a movie about lifting weights(Supes spent a lot of time picking up heavy objects).
