Best English band of the nineties?

who are best English bands of the nineties?

I think Radiohead, Blur and Oasis

the 90s was a bad time for English bands
they all sound dated

but BLUR were ****ing ace
Albarn is a genius

When the push came to the shove, I humped Blur, and I liked it.

However, Radiohead are the best. High And Dry? That song never gets old.

Jamiroquai

nah they really are nice trainers

Probably between Radiohead, Massive Attack and Porcupine Tree for me.

radiohead by a country mile. england's had it's fair share of good bands, but radiohead has displayed versatility, inventiveness, and quality not seen since the days of the beatles.

if radiohead's next album is once again brilliant and totally different, it will be official. radiohead will be the best band in the world.

Mine favourite from this era is Oasis.
I think this was a great era as Radiohead, Massive Attack, Porcupine Tree, Blur, Stone Roses, and Suede (or the London Suede) are all cool.

"Trainers" can't be Jay Kay's only legacy, surely!?

He wore nice hats too. 👆

Radiohead and Manic Street Preachers. Although they're Welsh.

Radiohead.Jamiroquai's one of my personal favorites though.

oh yeah, if we're including all UK bands, belle and sebastian deserve a second place.

don't think anyone's going to dethrone radiohead though.

Without thinking, Radiohead comes up straight away, like most have said.

Radiohead...the most disgustingly overrated rock band in modern UK history. The British media always want a poster band to be the "greatest band in the world", and then all the critics jump on board. Radiohead were insightful enough and experimental enough a pop group to gain that honour at the end of the decade from most (not all) music critics (over the likes of Oasis, Blur and such). Great band no doubt...but overrated.

The best "UK" bands of 90s (in terms of sheer kick-ass-ness) were...Massive Attack, Leftfield, The Stone Roses (if they count), and Primal Scream . All 4 of them fresh, innovative, musical, and relevant (even today). Tons of other good bands, but these are just a cut above.

...oh, and Westlife!

There's a difference between being widely praise and heavily praised and being overrated.

Nobody smart calls Radiohead the best band in the world as if it's a fact, but they are easily deserving of the accolade if it's to be given out. Radiohead are a band that get namedropped by people, it's true, but that doesn't mean that the smart move is to run in the opposite direction just because.

I find it a bit odd that you said Massive Attack. You probably should have said Tricky.

-AC

Nope. For starters, Tricky had one great album, Massive Attack had 3. And without Massive Attack...well...dunno if you know enough about the two to make my point...but Tricky's not "all that".

eh? the stone roses are pretty good, and so is blur (well, at least parklife is), but radiohead is so far beyond them. i'm shocked people are making a comparison.
