as much as i rate a fair few of their tracks i prefer the Chems as djs...although i did have the times of my life when i saw them on the Surrender and Dig Your Own Hole tours
ive never rated The Prodigy tho
i always thought they were a bit fake and by the time they got their stuff released and in the shops the scene had moved on leaving their stuff sounding dated

Prodigy had some good stuff on the FSOL albums, and I owned all their original works even before "Fat of the Land" dropped. "Speedway" off of "Music for the Jilted Generation" is one of my all time favotire songs.

I even thought Liam Howlett's solo CD was great, especially covering the Sex Pistols via samples. He was creative, but they seemed to have fizzled out.

i dunno theres a lot of people who are into true Techno by the likes of Carl Craig,Model 500,Jeff Mills,Andrew Wetherall etc who view The Prodigy and The Chrystal Method as not having an authentic sound
nothing dates quicker than commercial Techno as a listen to a The Matrix soundtrack will prove
its ok in Keanu Reeves movies where they have the obligitary night club scene or for Blade to do his stuff to(im not refering to CONFUSION by PUMP PANEL the music which the Vamps in Blade have their party too which is a GREAT track) but as Techno goes theres something missing.....or maybe too much going on

Well yeah that's bang on. In terms of techno dance music, Crystal Method were kind of a joke.

Every hard core raver and partyer I knew would make a clear distinction between them and say, the Chemical Brothers. Even though it wasn't as underground as they'd like, they still respected the Chemies far more than the Method.

Having said that, the Method’s radio remix version of "Coming Back" (which wasn't really trying to be techno dance music) was a solid electronica track. And their excursions into electronica got better on their second album with a variety of diverse tracks like "Name of the Game" and "Blowout".

As far as The Prodigy are concerned, their star didn't really shine until Fat of the Land, which is almost a masterpiece in my books. But I’d have to say they had some originality before that…not a lot of techno I’ve heard sounds like Charly, Out of Space, or Poison…but they did borrow a lot of the standard techno synth sounds on their first 2 albums and that pissed me off…casue I knew they had something more to offer…and that was Fat of the Land.
