Best English band of the nineties?

Started by vintageSW776 pages

the english band i stuck with through thick and thin with the most in the 90s were THE ORB
they dont get the recognition they deserve

The Fall came out with a lot of quality stuff in the 90s

they say britpop was a welcome relief to the american alt guitar scene well gimme Sonic Youth over any Britpop stuff
most of the britpop stuff sounds woefully dated whilst S Youth 90s stuff still sounds as good as it did then

and yes Jamiroquais lasting legacy is NICE TRAINERS

The libertines first album (up the bracket) came out in the year 2000 not the 90s

"The Manics aren't English"...no? what are they? please don't say Welsh..or i'll cry...
okay here's a suggestion: let's settle for British...mmkay?

yes..The Libertines are this and that..okay..but next time you want to "comment" on a subject...why not do it in a bit more constructive fashion?

No, let's settle for them not being English. Or why don't we just have bands from any country? Why even name a country? They're Welsh. The thread says English.

I might, unless it's about The Libertines, who are ****ing shit ****s.

I'm pretty sure this thread is more about the Britpop movement than actual English bands which would qualify the Maniacs yes?

Why are you sure of that? It clearly says English bands. So someone is an idiot, either you or the person who wrote the thread title.

Also- 'Manics'.

Libertines are good but not 90's.
Radiohead are not overrated.
Blur are underrated.

What about Pulp?

english speakers?

Radiohead

I generally identify the English bands of the 90's with Britpop and since I'm Canadian I tend to lump all the British together more than I should.

My apologies, Britpop would qualify Maniacs yes?

Again, they're called the Manics.

They weren't, and aren't, Britpop. Some would argue they are, but then some would argue all kinds of shit. (See thread 'Why do people think music's subjective?'😉

Well, I can honestly say I don't know anything about The Maniacs so I can't comment on their genre, just sorta figured they would be because almost all the bands mentioned in this thread save Radiohead have been.

MANICS!

ICS!

Manic Street Preachers. Didn't realize what you were talking about at all 'til now. Hehe very unlike me, hope you feel relieved now.

Somewhat.

Oh... Manic Street Preachers... Never been heard them called the Manics before but at the same time I've never really followed or been a fan.

My vote goes to Oasis. They're pretty good.

I'm with Oasis too.

Manics are 1000000 times better than Oasis, but they're Welsh not, English

The Maniacs have turned into everything they said theyd never be

bland

as for Oasis i dont think they have done anything anywhere near as good as Definatley Maybe and that was over 10 years ago
they are not relevant anymore they just keep churning out the same old crap for the easily pleased

How is it even possible for someone to then come into this thread and still call them The Maniacs?

I want somebody to explain this criminal idiocy to me, right now.

MANICS. They are called the MANIC STREET PREACHERS, MANICS for short. Not MANIACS.

The Stone Roses and the Manics were Welsh. Although the started in the eighties second coming was the nineties. Although the live performances on that tour were awful.
