What's So Bad About Hudlin? Really?

Started by llagrok47 pages

People expect white writers to include all minorities, but Hudlin only has to include Black. LOGIC!

Just as a point, that's doesn't actually constitute slander. don't use legal terms if you're going to use them incorrectly.

Some people are so sub-consciously racist.

That strong black male and female archetype. Some people just can't stand it.

Why: Because he is a mediocre writer who had Black Panther put Silver Surfer in a arm lock.

It has nothing to do racism. The backlash is about as racially motivated as when everyone was hating on Way for Wolverine surviving a nuke (read: not at all!). When you are writing in book set in a Universe with years and years of back history and a deep fanbase, you can expect for people to voice their opinions if you aren't true to characters with 40+ years of character development... and it doesn't matter what colour you happen to be.

Why do people feel obligated to defend subpar writers just because the share the same skin colour?

Not as far back as the French, Europeans... and virtually everyone else, but what ever.

As I said comics have a huge fanbase, fans who many of which are.... well... are bordering on unhealthy obsession. If they feel you've mishandled a character they are going to voice their oppinion about it... just how it is. Similar things have been said about many other writers who, for the record, weren't black.

I'm not arguing what you've just said. In fact, if you read some of my earlier posts it supports what you just said. Only from a different angle.

when people say he can't write cuz he wrote House Party, i tend to take offense.

that seemed like a charged statement, and it rubbed me the wrong way.

when people bring OJ into a comic book debate about a writer's skill and my support for him, i take offense.

It seemed like a charged statement, and it rubbed me the wrong way.

Also, how can you be a "Fan Boy" of racism?

Too many pages to read through...

House Party sucked.... how is that an unreasonable to think that someone who wrote that monstrosity might not be the best writer? If they guy who wrote The Adventures of Pluto Nash, wrote a comic I'm sure a lot of people would say "He can't write, just look at Pluto Nash!"

I haven't read that part of the debate I guess. 😮

By looking for racism where it clearly doesn't exist and insisting that it is still a dominate force in modern society.

Holla bidack

Sure, I'll "holla bidack." Claiming a charge of slander requires you to prove that the person in question is actually being affected by the slander; simply insulting someone's writing is far from slander. Having a negative opinion concerning a person or their work is far from slander. Have you read the opinion in "People V. Larry Flynt?" Like, actually read the document? Or studied recent supreme court cases that are about slander? If you haven't, please don't just pick definitions of the internet and try to prove something to me.

I honestly don't care about your opinions concerning Hudlin. If you like Hudlin, then so be it. That's cool. Very well. I couldn't care any less than I do. I personally think Hudlin is a bad writer, not in terms of his dealing with race issues, but the fact that his plots are contrived, pretty poorly thought out, and don't really go anywhere interesting. They're damn boring stories, with characters that can't be identified with, not because of their race, but because of the fact that they're just not written in a way in which you can get to know them. Black Panther is just some sort of perfect human, who has no faults or flaws; Storm is just some incredibly powerful bimbo who no longer has any real opinions. How are those interesting characters?

And just as a side note, as a Mexican, my race gets almost NO representation in comic books. That's something that ought to be changed.

because it's your opinion that it sucked (I loved it) and House Party has nothing to do with someone's willingness to adhere to continuity and character development.

Hudlin also did:

Boomerang (I loved it)

The Ladies Man (I Loved it)

Bernie Mac show (I loved it)

And no, I didn't know that he had anything to do with the other movies until I went to his site. I didn't even know that he wrote House Party until I got in here and people started dissin (disrespecting) it. and i was like "Hold up. I f'ed with House Party"

But again it might be a relation thing. Why didn't you like House Party?

My bad, I missed the world wide memo that announced that racism doesn't exist in modern society. (Somebody should tell the police to quit profiling and shootin mufukas while they're reaching for they're ID. Or leaving a Strip club the night before their wedding. While they're at it why don't we talk to the media about Black people "Looting" and White people "searching for food". or maybe they could stop mixing up a PRESIDENTIAL candidates name with a suspected TERRORIST'S name. Maybe they could also NOT put up the latter's picture while posting the former's name across the bottom. "Looking for Obama"? somebody should have fired. )

No you missed the memo that said:

"There's more to life than racism. Just because it controls some people doesn't mean it controls everybody."
