I didn't think it was necessarily sex either, but the way they word their conversation, they're both playing with innuendo. It implies Jack was a bad lover to her. I don't think she found him challenging enough, if you can believe that.
It's funny how people can see a line and interpret it in different ways. I actually never thought of it in the most literal sense of 'I thought I knew who you were.' Interesting!
Though, when I heard the line, I intrepreted it with the sexual inuendo on both their parts. However, I thought she was implying that she didn't get as far with Jack as she had hoped. Which, to me makes more sense now because it foreshadows the way that Calypso can and will be released.
BECAUSE: SPOILERS
She can only be released if she is spoken to like a lover. AKA, the disney way of saying she can only be released through....you get the idea.
So in my mind, this implies that she tried to seduce Jack to get him to release her, but he figured out the sham in time.
Also, it explains Jack's sudden eagerness to prevent Will from "knowing" her. It's not so much that he's jealous, but that he is a member of the Bretheren, knows her dirty tricks, and knows how naive Will can be at times. Although Jack can be devious at times, he does try to look out for Will where he can.
And last but certainly not least, where can I get one of those super cool banners? I know it's off topic, but I'm starting to feel envious.

Wow..this is the best explanation of what is going on with Tia and Jack that I've ever heard..and the most believable...it really does make sense....if she needs "sex" to release her self back into her Calypso form....Jack knows...."not as well as I had hoped"...meaning she wanted Jack do Shag her but he didn't.....and that would also explain the mysterious conversation between him and the crew as the approach her cabin...when he talks about how close he and Tia were...before....and Gibbs says he'll watch his back and Jack says it's his front he's worried about (maybe after he refused to shag her, she threatened to turn him into a eunich)....and I love the part that he is protecting Will from "knowing" her..."they'll be no knowing here, (but what about Jack's line "I thought I knew You"?..."Not as well as I had Hoped)....
We've come for help and we're not leaving here without it...
And this could also explain why Gibbs was surprised Jack would go back to visit her...yea, bad enough to visit Her...
Will: her?
Gibbs: eh, Her!
So, Gibbs definetely knows what went on and what went wrong between Jack and Tia...when did this happen,....during those 10 years he was trying to get the Pearl back from Barbossa?? Gosh, Jack's life timeline is giving me a headache...almost like a soap opera....
this may be a bit late, but on the previous page discussions were being had about tia working for/with beckett.
i dont think this is the case. i dont think tia has anything to do with beckett. i dont she's in league with him, or ever has been.
there, i've said my peace. 😉
Savvy, good thoughts on that scene, btw.
All this discussion about Tia Dalma, and Calypso has made me curious about the nature of her relationship with Davy Jones. So, this leads me to our next question.
What is the story of Calypso and Davy Jones?
How is it that Jones came to tear out his heart?
What is your interpretation of the scene in DMC in which Jack says to Davy: Separating her from him and him from her wouldn't be half as cruel as allowing them to marry...
Discuss!
Ditte3, in the novelization of POTC: DMC, Jack actually says he likes the idea of wager because he sees it as "a wager to see who will fall out of love first." That may not be the most mature view, but it's better than being totally against it.
I agree that Jack never intended for Davy to hurt Will. He sent Will over to get the key, thinking Davy would send him back. The whole 99 soul thing is just Jack stalling for time to think of a plan. So it's very convenient when Liz comes by when she does because now he can send someone after the chest while someone else is getting him the key.
Maybe I'm a pervert, but does anyone else see the sexual symbolism here? The male going to get the key and the female going to get the chest? It's like Ghostbusters.
"I am the keymaster. I am the gatekeeper."
I heart Ghost Busters! Yay, willo! 😉

This is what I know or speculate about Davy's story. I know he was a great sailor. He sailed around the seven seas and he practically lived all his life in doing so. He came across with Calypso, a beautiful sea goddess who can steal a man's heart.
They both fell in love and he wrote poems to her in declaration of his love. I believe that she grants Davy immortality because she found the good in him, and so he could rescue the souls lost at sea and take them to Fiddler's Green. But Calypso fell out of love because she was "untenable as the sea."
Davy was heartbroken after declaring his love for her and worshiping her beauty. He couldn't stop loving her, so he cut him heart, locked it in a chest along with the letters and poem written to Calypso, and locked it away to try to forget his past love. I also believe he did this so he won't be heart broken again.
Davy became cruel and started to torture the souls instead of freeing them.
The past of Davy is very unclear. But I read that it's not his real name. That the pirates gave him that name meaning the devil.
Yeah, he's supposed to be the devil of the seas. I very much like in the commentary T&T say they wrote song lyrics and someone translated them into Dutch to put in the letters on top of the chest. The very thought so much care was put into a prop that we only see for a few seconds shows how hard everyone involved in this series works.

I believe Jack is implying that it would be cruel to have a mismatched couple to be married. In Jack's words and thoughts. That it may seem cruel to sepperate them, but not as much as in letting them both get married.
Just a way of persuasion to make Jones keep the boy.
faithful, huh? Reminds you of something?
When you love someone, that should be the person whom you want to only love and be intimate with. Trust is numero uno of a relationship.
Calypso and Lizzie are not really the same. Lizzie wouldn't fall out of love, she loves Will. I won't make this into a shippy battle, she loves him but is not in love with him.
Ha, I can't even respond to your post Chiki because that would start a debate that may tear our fragile alliances apart. Therefore, I will dance around it and address other matters of interest.
My question is, was it Jones' nature, or Calypso's that brought about the demise of their relationship?
It's quite possible that like Elizabeth, Calypso may in fact be innocent of having fallen out of love with Jones. The choice to rip out his heart, seems to me to be a rash, not thoroughly thought out decision.
And further more, in the script somewhere it was said that Calypso was enraged by Jones' choice. Why should she be angry with him if she was not in love with him? Wouldn't a woman as callous as
Calypso seems to be not care a wit about Jones' choices?
Also, the AWE script implies that Sao Fen has been searching for Calypso. Does this mean that he may in fact be the man with whom Calypso had a dalliance?
You bring up some good points. As far as I know, Davy was a good man until she did that. Even when Tia tells such a tragic story, she is sympathetic and touched by it, so I think Davy had to have been pretty good to her. But then he turned to the dark side so to speak, and maybe she's outraged that such a good man went bad.
