Barbossa.
His motivation in my opinion is two fold--one, to save the Pirate way of life from Beckett and his clan. Two: To steal the Pearl away from Jack again because he feels it's his ship.
It's hard to tell though, whether or not he'll do so through betrayal or if he'll manage to trick Jack into giving it up somehow.
LOL, no we weren't arguing lol. I didn't want to be mushy about the Will subject because I do indeed feel bad for him. I have been emotional all this weekend because my cousin got married and I'm going to miss him dearly.
Anyways.
I agree on what you mention about Barbossa. I always imagined ending the movie with Barbossa stealing the Pearl. I dunno, seems fun that way seeing Jack getting hysterical about it. Barbossa leaving with the pearl while doing his evil laugh.
Awwwww! Congrats to your cousin! I know how you feel about that. My sister is getting married in May. I feel misty about it myself.

Though, it's hard to judge what Barbossa's behavior will be like. Even though he's been dead, and under the command of Tia Dalma, I don't honestly see him reforming his former ways. It would seem out of character for him to change his ways and play nice. He's like Jack in that when his motivations align with the protagonists, he'll play along to get what he wants. So, he'll play along so long as it means he'll find a way to get the Pearl back in the end.
Aye, Barbossa is cold. It would definitely be out of character of having Barbossa all nice. It would make sense if he plays nice for the purposes of beating Jack and gaining the pearl. He is the kind of character whom you love to hate 🙂.
Just that at this point of the movie, we won't know what to expect from Barbossa. All I know is that he is smart enough to join in all the pirates to beat the EITC. And he is willing to try and get along if it's only to win the war.
Do any of you feel like tackling the idea of Jack's father, or rather as Terry insists: the father figure who is not confirmed to be Jack's actual father?
What about the fathers of the series? We have three fathers, Bootstrap, Teague, and Governor Swann.
What do they all have in common? What is different about them? In turn, what sort of children have they raised?
I'm not sure if Teague is Jack's father or just a father figure. TnT didn't deny or confirm these speculations. They just want us to wait and see in the movie, not to rely on what the internet and rumors say about it.
Um, here's my little take on the three fathers.
All of them don't want their child to end up as pirates.
Gov. Swann raised Liz to become a lady and trying to forbid her anything to do with pirates. But I don't think he's controlling, actually.
Bootstrap doesn't want Will's fate to end up like his. Though it's getting hard to avoid.
Teague I'm not sure because we know very little about him. All I know is that Jack has a grudge against him.
Good point! I forgot that Governor Swann had taken extreme caution so that Elizabeth's interest in pirates wouldn't be encouraged. You're right, none of the parents wanted their children to become Pirates.
I think Jack's story is probably similar. I'm fairly certain that when we find out about his early life, it will resemble Will's. The rumor is that Jack never wanted to become a pirate.
Also, with the fathers, two of the three make large sacrifices for their children. Swann sacrifices his life, as does Bootstrap though from all appearances, I believe that though the fathers never wanted their children to follow in the pirate footsteps, they admire their children for choosing that path. Swann tells Elizabeth as much before he passes into World's End. I imagine the same will be said of Bootstrap. It will be interesting to see what Teague's role in the story will be. I think like all parents, he'll be there to offer Jack guidance, since it seems that around the time of the Betheren Council, Jack's strayed from the better path.

Yeah, in the 56 pager, Jack makes it quite plain to Will that if he does this, then he will lose Elizabeth but that was also partly for the audience's benefit and now that there's an earlier scene without Will that stresses that he who stabs the heart, becomes Cpatain...I don't know if Will gets proper warning or not.
