Diva I'm so sorry to hear about your loss....I can't say I know how you feel, cuz I've never lost anyone yet that is really, really close to me...but when I'm down and out and want to forget things I come here. Somehow talking about, reading about, looking at pictures or just anything to do with Pirates always takes my mind off of those matters.I always. I use this as my escape....

Good point! I forgot that Governor Swann had taken extreme caution so that Elizabeth's interest in pirates wouldn't be encouraged. You're right, none of the parents wanted their children to become Pirates.I think Jack's story is probably similar. I'm fairly certain that when we find out about his early life, it will resemble Will's. The rumor is that Jack never wanted to become a pirate.
Also, with the fathers, two of the three make large sacrifices for their children. Swann sacrifices his life, as does Bootstrap though from all appearances, I believe that though the fathers never wanted their children to follow in the pirate footsteps, they admire their children for choosing that path. Swann tells Elizabeth as much before he passes into World's End. I imagine the same will be said of Bootstrap. It will be interesting to see what Teague's role in the story will be. I think like all parents, he'll be there to offer Jack guidance, since it seems that around the time of the Betheren Council, Jack's strayed from the better path.
But the thing is, is did Jack really choose to become a pirate, or was that path chosen for him by Beckett? Remember after freeing the slaves, Beckett had his ship burned and branded him a Pirate, leaving him no choice. I wonder what else is in Beckett's and Jack's past...I think it goes deeper than that....what If Beckett and Jack are brothers, and Beckett was always jealous of Jack, perhaps their father showed favoritism toward jack....but if not a brother, than a cousin or something. I just really think there is more to the story. Just a random thought I had. 😕

Ha, I don't know. It's a good guess, but considering everything that they have to resolve in AWE, I think that maybe a brother backstory might be too much information.
On some levels, Jack didn't choose to become a pirate. His actions were branded by Beckett to be piracy. On the other hand, he made a conscious decision to allow the brand to change who he was, if that makes any sense.
So yes, I think Jack did essentially choose to be a pirate but I don't think he anticipated all that it would entail. It probably started off as a game for him, an excercise in freedom. It was a selfish desire that he wanted, but then he found out what the cost of pure freedom has.
Well, IMO, Jack became a pirate because he was branded by Mr. Evil shorty. But it was Jack's choice to embrace his piracy. He decided to make his own rules and become a rebel and a fugitive against the law. So he decided to make the choice in piracy and make his own path.
But, he is not considered as a pirate. Pirates are cold and mean, Jack believes that there is such thing as a good man good pirate. When he believed Barbossa was that, well, that's how the mutiny ocurred. They took advantage of Jack's honesty.
I think Jack started out as more of a Robin Hood figure, and then got deeper and deeper as he found out how fun life could be... if you know what I mean. I definitely don't think Beckett had much to do with Jack's piracy, except to give him the push he needed to finally break ties with morality/respectable life. Now, who does Jack perform that service for? 😉
holy crap, seriously?!?!? In 8 days we'll know everything for sure??~
Well, what the DMC novelization didn't catch was the insane chemistry between Jack and Elizabeth. The novelization glossed over much of it, making the kiss seem like nothing, and practically ignoring the curiosity scene. So I reckon the novelization of AWE won't have the swoon moments we know are coming for our darling Sparrabeth--- as long as Jack and Liz are in the same shot of some part of the film, there will be moments to swoon over!!!
Jack's intentions about the chest was to use it to negotiate with Davy. He was holding the heart as a hostage. His purposes was not to become immortal and I figure is for Liz. Since he knows how the whole legend works.--ANYWAYS(no shippy battle)
But in AWE, Jack experienced death and hated it. He is tired of the mutiny, the betrayels and cheating on death so many times. So his purposes for the chest has now changed. He wants to become immortal because he doest want to die again. He doesn't have sympathy for no one, he is going to take the chest, accomplish his mission and that's it.
Beckett and Jack are cut from the same cloth essentially in that they're both insanely clever and manipulative. It's just that one uses his power more for the good of the order, while the other is bent on being evil. It's possible that Jack simply outwit Beckett, and Beckett can't take the slight.
Also, Jack left a mark on Beckett, which to me implies something physical rather than emotional.
