Ya Barbossa...somethings changed about Him...i mean what was the deal? Why did he sooo badly want to release Calypso? I really didnt like when he got down on his knees and begged Calypso to spare him? And then she called him a fool... I thought that was real a real downgrade!
Well, think about Jack and Barbossa being in the same boat essentially. I'm pretty sure that Barbossa doesn't want to die ever again. Also, Barbossa, being one of the truest pirates among them doesn't want to see the destruction of his life style. So of COURSE he's going to plead with Calypso to spare him.
Murtogg and Mulloy, Mina.

Davy and calypso in the novel Calypso doesn't come like they wanted she comes out but then goes back to sleep or whatever it is she did all those years so they are left to battle alone i am a bit confused on that part i thought that in the end Davy and calypso end together and Calypso is released.
The book is sketchy about Calypso and Davy because it has intregal bearing on the plot. So they're purposefully vague about what they kept in the book.
I feel like an idiot now. Thanks for clarifying the names for me.
SO! What will become of Tortuga and all the pirates. This may sound cheesy, but the pirates can start a new civilization in Tortuga. Not reall an escape or a place to get your kicks all the time, but it could turn into some what Port Royal. Since piracy is at it's end--historically speaking. I'm not saying that there shouldn't be adventures.

well yes i know....but i mean like u said him being truest Pirate...dont u think he would have known that Calypso would be so angy that they entrapped her in a human form....that she wouldnt help....which meant if she is released even if they did defeat the EITC....Calypso would surely put an end to the Pirating ways, because her fury is much to strong!! So Barbossa had to have known that by releasing her it would be 2 Furries(wars) they would have to defeat!!! EITC and Calypso!

Desperation can motivate a man to make poor choices. Look at what it's done to Jack. He sacrificed his soul for a ship, essentially.
Barbossa is desperate; he's not willing to lose his way of life, and he doesn't trust Jack enough to come through and save the day.
So, he releases the unreliable secret weapon.
I think it also was meant to highlight everyone's lack of faith in Jack. No one but Elizabeth, and to a certain extent Will recognizes that he's a good man at heart.
