This whole Storm/Kitty farce has gone on long enough. Here are some facts:
1) Kitty has to breathe while intangible. The fact that she says a few words while in a wall does not nullify this. This is a lady who can hold her breath while intangible long enough to go to the core of the planet. There was an X-Men story where Banshee was captured by Thunderbird to lure the X-Men in a trap to fight him. He sought to kill XAvier. While intangible, Kitty was taken out by gas. She and Logan were in a room that was being filled with a lethal gas. Wolverine told her to go. She came back for him and was overwhelmed by the vapors. She has also nearly drowned while intangible and she has told people on panel to hold their breath before leaping with them in the earth. She was comfortable using a portion of her air to say a few words in that wall because she knows that she can hold her breath long enough to go to the core of a planet if he has to. She knew that wall did not reach that far down. You will have to provide an issue that states, "while intangible, Kitty does not have to breathe" in order to refute this or show her about to pass out from lack of air and avoid it by turning intangible. The best you can argue is that Kitty can probably hold her breath longer than a normal person while intangible. She can probably make it with less air while intangible than a when tangible. However, she still does have to breathe and Storm beats her.
2) Magneto does not nor has he ever demonstrated control over electricity that approaches Storm. According to ncanny 150, the lightning bolt only hurt Storm because it caught her off guard and thus her body was unable to compensate for the energy BECAUSE she was caught off guard. Storm has channeled the full electrical power of storms through her body. Magneto has never even shown that he can take a raw bolt from the sky directly.
Hurricanes generate enough energy to supply the United States for 6 months. This is not over the entire period of the hurricane, but at any given moment when it has matured to a full blown hurricane! The energy they produce to drive the storm equals that of thousands of Hiroshima-type atomic bombs. This is an average, real-life sized hurricane. Imagine the amount of energy a hemisphere-sized hurricane produces or a continent-sized blizzard! Guess what Storm did? 😄 In Giant-Sized issue 1, she focuses the full electrical power of a storm through her body and into Polaris.
Here, she overloads or "exceeds the limits" of Polaris. Then, the energy allows her to shoot downwards through five miles of ocean and four thousand miles of the Earth's crust to the center of the Earth. This energy cuts gravity from the entire Island and it goes flying off of the planet.
While Scott and Havok did add their energies at the last moment to Storm's to help boost Lorna's, their powers are very small when working at this scope. As we all know, Polaris' powers are nowhere near this strong to do this on her own. Blasting to the core of the planet and severing gravity's hold on the island like that is well beyond MAgneto's powers even by far. In other words, Storm was the main person at play here. She was the one who really brought the power needed to accomplish the feat. Polaris merely harnessed the energy Storm used to increase her magnetic powers exponentially for these purposes.
This shows 3 things for Storm:
1) Notice that she first drew the energy into herself before she sent it to Polaris. She was obviously "filtering" the energy enough (as what happened in 150 where the bolt was filtered through her body before hitting Magneto)so that it would not kill Polaris outright. In the Storm/Polaris fight I am posting below, she obviously did not filter then energy so much as it took Lorna right out of the fight. Here is the scan:
2) I'm not looking to debate this, but given the way Storm's powers have been expanded over the years, she controls all of the forces necessary to pull this kind of stunt on her own without Lorna, Scott or Alex. She certainly has the raw power as she was the main power supply here. Regardless, this does not really have anything to do with Storm/Kitty.
3) She can toss MEGA lightning bolts. lol! She could very easily devistate an island or countryside with one of these.
4) None of Magneto's electrical projections comes anywhere near this stunt Storm pulled on Krakoa nor can he project electricity strong enough to overpower Polaris' magnetic powers. While he can overwhlem Polaris' magnetism with his magnetism, he cannot overpower her magnetism with his electricity. Her magnetism is MUCH more impressive than any of his electrical projections. Storm overpowered Polaris big time with her electrical powers so people need to stop talking foolishly about him being able to whip up an electrical current greater than Storm's to hurt Kitty. lol!
5) In that Danger Room issue with Storm and Kitty, she was obviously regulating the bolt enough so as to not hurt Kitty. We know she can do this because we see in one issue where she uses lightning to power up Lorna yet in another issue, when battling her, she takes Lorna out of a fight with electricity. End of Story.
Kitty is a clown to fight Storm.
In regards to MAgneto creating worm holes giving him greater control over electricity, that is foolish! The two abilities are not related. AS a matter of fact, creating wormholes has nothing to do with magnetism or the EM spectrum (which he has YET to demonstrate control over). He has never thrown a gamma blast or manipulated x-rays or anything that I can recall. He has projected minor electrical blasts (minor compared to Storm) and bent lightwaves around him, but nothing major. His primary power is magnetism with very limited power over some of the related forces (maybe all of them, but we have not seen it).
I've been reading about the different kinds of lightning.
I bet Ororo could produce "positive lightning" (like the bolt in my sig) with EASE.
Positive lightning is like TEN TIMES stronger than negative lightning(or the normal lightning we see in a thunderstorm)
It can be up a 1,000,000,000 volts of electricity. It also last longer and creates an intense EMP around it so it can incompasitate people even if they are not directly hit by it.
In X-treme, right before Storm's power's "betrayed her". It said she's been channling these TITANIC energies through her body since she was CHILD.
Storm probably can produce lightning even STRONGER than that since Positive lightning is just ONE discharge from the positive areas at the top of the supercell. She can just gather all the EM energergy and stricke you with it. AMAZING.
It would have to be in a hundreds of billions to trillions of volts.
She hit the SS with a powerful bolt and he was affected. Don't know if it's PIS though.
but do we know how long she can actually walk on air and not to unphase part of herself to take some breath? that is when storm is going to strike her and go for the win ( after all they are both bloodlusted). oh and i belive that elecricity has an effect on her in her phased form such as mangento did when he nearly killed her?
I really don't think Kitty needs to breathe while phased anymore. She's passed through substances that would take to long to hold her breathe in. I'm talking about the alien metal in Astonishing X-Men, and after she phases Colossus up with her, while supporting his weight. This would take a long time.
And in her last mini series she was in the air while blowing a raspberry at some ninjas , pretty lame sounding point but it means she had expelled the air in her lungs.

In regards to your first paragraph, perhaps while intangible, she can hold her breath longer than if she were tangible.
Your second paragraph proves that she must still breathe.

I know it does, it's why I mentioned it. She wasn't holding her breath but was still in the air.

Being intangible alone does not require Kitty to hold her breath. She only needs to hold it if she is going to pass through an object since she still has to breathe even while intangible. She can still talk while passing through matter, but it will cost some of her air supply.

This makes sense. She could use her winds to keep soot in the air around Kitty no matter where she goes. Kitty will have to take a breath sometimes and when she does, she inhales a lungful of soot. Or Ororo could simply just steal the air away from Kitty so that she can't breathe.
