I was really enjoying this movie until the Villain was introduced in the second act. Most of the movie was handled with care and a fair amount of respect and i even praise the casting. The actors did a very fine job. I was genuinely interested in them. For as much risk as the writers took with taking the series into an alternate timeline i am left wondering why they didn't bother with properly developing the protagonist. Neros' drive to do what he did was empty and ridiculous. I didn't, for one minute believe his anguish or reason for committing mass genocide. Just like other failed Star Trek movies it felt like an ignored plot device. It almost ruined the entire movie for me. However, all other aspects of the film were handled so well i was able to overlook that. I was also put off by Nimoys' entrance but i guess for a summer blockbuster that would be considered nitpicking and even though it was rushed it worked well, if not for nostalgia sake. Again, i enjoyed the movie but i was highly disappointed and almost offended with the Villain and his reasons for doing what he did.

What follows is from my point of view.

Honestly, they could have had the hamburgler for the villain for all I care. I went to the movie to see Kirk, Spock, Bones, Scotty, Checkov, Sulu & Uhura. As long as they had a villain that was somewhat serviceable I'm good with that. I think this movie was mainly to intro the original series characters. Now the next movie the villain needs to be written very well and Im hoping for a Klignon.

That would be awesome.

We already saw those Ships in the Kobyashi Maru scene.

Klingons would make the most sense, but since this is an

, who knows if the Federation is still in a cold/warm war with them at this period in time.

Hope you're right, though, as I'd like to see how they handle the human-headed vs crest-headed aspect of the Klingons.

This is possibly the best sci-fi movie I've seen in theaters. Seeing it in IMAX probably helped.

Never seen an IMAX, maybe I'll call in sick one day and make a go of it, wouldn't mind seeing this movie again, at twice the size.

SADA! 😱 hug

I know it's not possible given the difference in time between when TNG took place and when this takes place, but I'd very much like to see the Borg as the villain in these new movies.

Never seen anything Trek related beside what dad watches from time to time, but this looked pretty decent, so a few friends and I saw it opening day.

I liked it. biscuits

Going to see it again tomorrow.

And I don't ever see anything twice in theaters.

Went and saw it last night. I´m not one of these trekkies who wear all the clothes, take it all seriously and stuff, just a big Sci -fi Fan who followed the original series as a kid (and all the others) and I thought the movie was Absolutely BRILLIANT.

The actors for the characters were well picked, the effects were amazing and the humour and atmosphere of the star trek world was there.

The only problems I had were that I´m not really into this time travel alternate reality business, and can´t understand why no one was defending the earth when the "drill" was inserted. Surely a few space ships, satellites or ground based photon torpedo silo´s must be present in case of such an attack.

I saw the movie on Saturday and I must say, as a devoted Star Wars fan, I REALLY enjoyed this movie. I enjoyed it so much, I will give it the nod over Episodes 1 and 2 of the prequels. Awesome story and great acting. It left me wanting more.

A couple of things, Urban was Bones was fantastic. He and Pine gave the best performances in the movie.

The opening sequence was AWESOME! If it wasn't for the fact that I am a Manly Man, I would have wept at that point. The act by Kirk's dad really gave me a lump in my throat.

Spoiler:
The fleet was far away, it's the reason the Enterprise and other newly commissioned ships had to leave early (with a not ready crew) when Vulcan sent the distress singnal.

When they were all destroyed by the surprise attack and Vulcan obliterated, the Enterprise was ordered to regroup with the fleet; that's when that business of Kirk and Spock clashing heads happened.

If there were any smaller/older ships on/around Earth still, they would have been easily snuffed, as the Romulan ship was powerful enough to take on 47 Klingon Bird of Prey ships and destroy them.

The alternate reality was brilliant I thought, great way to start fresh and not have to stick with canon in future movies.

I completely agree .. brilliant move that opens up sheer endless possibilities.

I think the new Star Trek movie was one of the best out of all the movies. However, I did not believe the reason

Spoiler:
Romulus was destroyed. How in the world could a super nova destroy the galaxy? Also, supper massive super nova always result in a black hole. How would turning this super nova into a black hole do anything?

Spoiler:
The galaxy wasn't destroyed by the shock wave, Romulus was.

Spock was trying to make a black hole next to the dying star, so that it would 'suck' (for lack of a better word) in the stars matter before it hit critical mass, expelled and constracted.

That is not how they said it (I think). I wish I had a quote. What you are saying would make sense, but that was not the impression I got. However, I have only seen it one time.

I agree rob

What about the people in the 29th century that keep an eye on the time line? Wouldn't they try to fix this time line corruption?

They might not exist now, due to the events that formed this

Or maybe they just don't care or tried and failed etc. etc. etc.

Or they could use it as a story line in the future. It is just the things that got stuck in my head after the show. 😄
