Originally posted by SoljerIf it's CPU time, and he's virtually a man-machine hybrid, then how is it not picosecond reaction feat? Does this mean that he can react and counter a superspeed punch in picoseconds? No, since his physicality prevents him from doing so. But anything involving computer processing is. Scanning, firewalling, power rerouting, etc.
And you don't think he's talking about CPU time? "Lemme open up 'Isolate Signal.exe' which'll finish in just a few clock cycles."That was my inclination upon reading it, not to mention the fact that a single showing where the character's inner narration describes a short time (possibly for dramatic purposes) doesn't really lend much credence to the supposition.
Omniscient narration describing the time would be better. Even better than that would be an actual 'timer' with which we could compare actions.
I find myself extremely skeptical of that scan being provided as evidence of Tony having picosecond reaction times. The evidence for it is highly dubious and to be frank...that's Flash-level reaction times for ****'s sake.
Not that Tony needs picosecond reaction times to get low-herald.
If that sounds cool with you, I think we actually agree. Otherwise, if you don't think he + his armor are capable of that, then there are only two choices, it's either true or it's hyperbole. For me, such precise language terms do not suggest hyperbole to me. If I approach it without incredulity in mind and from a literary (not literal) point of view, who talks like that when they don't mean what they're saying? Stark may be snarky sometimes, but his speech is still pretty down to earth, relatively speaking, and he doesn't blow sunshine up his own ass... especially to himself in his own mind. Hyperbole tends to be used towards an audience. There's no audience here.
