i know what a "ho" is but whats the Nappy Head bit about?
obv its black slang and another case of a term thats " ok for us to say but not you whitey"i remember hearing it in a rap track years ago but dont recall anyone kicking up a stink then
nappy hair is a description of a particular kind of hair texture, it usually is coiled, like a spring, if you take out a mechanical pen or pencil that has a mechanical push button, look at the coil on the spring, that coil is not as tightly coiled as one strain of the "nappy" hair description, it's hair that is hard to comb with a fine tooth comb and very dry, almost looks like brittle when seen together, the brittle look can fool you, as with the dark skin, b/c when you touch it, it's suprisingly soft to the touch, including the skin, even though it does appear to look like it would feel harsh, but when you touch it, it's the exact opposite. again, if you take the hair at a single strain, you will see a very tightly coiled hair (mainly b/c it lacks a particular protein found in white and (stereotypical) Asian hair (Polynesians would have what i see in black and Indian mixture type hair), and doesn't hold moister, which is odd, as i would think the DNA would want to hold onto moister to account for the heat in Africa, it is something that comes from a particular group in Africa, and has a history of being used to put a person down, blacks say it was done by whites first, and then, later by other blacks, it's like being pale, some whites love it and some don't, some whites make fun of it, some whites don't, some whites are sensitive about it, some whites aren't, pale in white society is the same thing as "nappy" hair in black society).
but it's not fair for the black community (church, naacp, civil rights leader(s)) to get up in arms about a comment that they KNOW blacks make about each other, and FUEL the emotional hurt that SOME blacks would feel about it, it's just irresponsible of the leaders to fuel those emotions when blacks say it themselves.
it's all in personality, i've been around whites who make fun of pale or blond, but i tend to stay away from repeating it, just b/c it may not feel the same way to others hearing it, and the familar bond with them maynot be there, and they may get upset or think i am being cruel, so i don't repeat it as a joke or at all, but that's my personality.
i use to hear some whites tell me that "your blond roots are showing", and it would upset me, b/c i never dyed my hair, and they would giggle, and i would think so remorsefully of blonds b/c i learned that they were saying i was an air head (i found out the meaning later). to each his own, some people find those things funny.
