Haha another article came out and I loved Howard Stern's response to this as well as this little tidbit:"He has urged critics to recognize that his show is a comedy that spreads insults broadly. Imus or his cast have called Colin Powell a "weasel," New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson a "fat sissy," referred to Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell of Colorado, an American Indian, as "the guy from `F Troop,"' and to Gwen Ifill, a black journalist, as "the cleaning lady." He and his colleagues also called the New York Knicks a group of "chest-thumping pimps."
and Howard Stern's comments:
"He's apologizing like a guy who got his first broadcasting job," Stern said. "He should have said, '(expletive) you, it's a joke."'
Brought to you by Yahoo Sports.
I agree with Howard Stern, omg.
I watched the comment of the Rutger's University BB couch. She talked about the academic talents of her female BB players (so her argument is that they aren't stupid and they are "worthy" or contribute to society...so that tells us right there, how she translated the words "nappy headed hos" and the resulting emotions from what was interpreted...so now that we know her defense, we know what the antagonist is all about, it represents the translated word as meaning "they are not intelligent, don't contribute to society, and are unworthy" and that emotion becomes a character that is racist, that's the antagonist).
About 10 years ago or more, someone could argue that athletes are meat heads and are stupid, but a lot has changed and many people are aware of the credentials and the academic requirements of college athletes. I doubt anyone who is a reasonable person, would assume that college athletes are generally stupid or below the average in intelligence. The "nappy headed hos" comment invoked a particular emotion and a reason for defense, but defense from WHAT? I've heard that term (nappy headed hos) used to describe black females who aren't maintaining their looks (esp. their hair), it's a pejorative term and sometimes used by blacks to "classify" a person, now when blacks hear a white person use it, they ASSUME that the classification is more derogatory. And regarding physical looks or maintenance, you do see many black females who aren't "kept up" b/c they aren't financially secure or they are putting their income into a child or spouse. Plenty of people stop taking care of themselves for various reasons in life. His referral to them as "nappy headed hos" must have been translated as the feelings of being less or not progressive or uneducated. Once you understand the feelings, you can figure out why the couch puts up that kind of defense or argument.
I think the black community (church leaders, civil rights leaders), FEEDS on emotionalism, not sure if that's a feel good method or something more strategic, but it's not solving the overall condition, why would SOME blacks feel so hurt about this, what are they rehearsing?
