USH'S MATRIX GAME 2006 FOURTH ASSIGNMENT (PHILOSOPHY)- 'The Door'

"Some might say," says the Oracle, "that the King had very good reasons indeed to do what he wanted."

"But I reject his reasons. From my point of view, he was wrong, as is now Jericho. I believe thar proper reason should be based on some moral judgements, a reasonable mind has to believe in objective right and wrong. Being reasonable means that you know how to exercize your freedom."

Anyone else got any comment to make?

Well, I hope there are, because all the Philo players should have been thinking about that question.

Heph feels that reasons and intentions are very separate...

"I believe it's better to do the wrong thing for the right reasons," Heph states. "Even if your goal is questionable, it's not because you're immoral or incorrect. You have good, righteous reasons for wanting that goal."

"So you agree with Sennacherib, then?" says the Oracle.

"I believe you have to do the right things for the right reasons," Berserker continues. "I wouldn't kill one child to save millions."

(I hope that was a choice)

Err, afraid not; it was a fairly clear two way question about which is better.

"Ok I believe you when you have faced with a choice it is better to do the right thing for the wrong reasons."

(Sorry, I didn't mean to put down what I wrote; I'd been awake for like...5 minutes...)

"My bad, no," Heph says. "I mean to say the right thing for the wrong reasons. Your motives might be questionable, but the end result is overall better."

"I definitely agree that the right thing for the wrong reasons is the way I would go," Sirin adds in. "As long as it's the right thing."

(Oh, and in response to an earlier comment by Azrael...)

"Wouldn't Jericho have realized it was your double, not you?" Heph asks, but then shakes his head. "God, that was what we talked about with Melitus at all..."

Ok, time's up for others.

"Perosnally I like to think it's the thing that counts," says the Oracle, serenely. "Of course, I would say that, wouldn't I? I can see where it all leads. Kinda annoying of me, isn't it? I'm not going to tell you if there is an answer. You can make anything of it you like; it was one of those... no real answer things I like to say, because watching you wranglr with them gives me a smile."

She looks a tiny bit more serious.

"But what I will say, is something I think Lo Qi told you. No-one could actually dispute any of Sennacherib's reasons." She takes another drag on the cigarette. "And so now he spends all his time telling everyone who will listen how good his reasons were, and meanwhile everyone who was there tends to say how the right thing to do was not to do it. So there you are. One of those little dilemmas we have to face now and again.

"So. Klez. Azrael. Difficult conclusions you have come to, here. Kind of glad this has happened? You wouldn't stop it if you could, right?"

But his double IS him, isn't it?

You had to go there...

Ohhhh yes...

"More or less," Klez replies. "I've been fighting this war too long to pass up the opportunity to win it."

"You think you have the right to kill all those people?"

"They aren't contributing to the survival of Zion," Klez replies.

"So anyone, willingly or unwillingly, who poses a threat to Zion pays with their life, yes?"
