"That's not it at all. Through their deaths, they can save the future of mankind. We won't have to hide in caves any more, stalk the sewers, raid the Matrix. We'll be able to make progress."

"But you didn't ask them if they wanted to do that, Klez. You are choosing life and death for them. And uyou say you have the right to do that because they aren't contributing. So as I say, you think anyone who does not contribute has no right to live if you decide otherwise, yes?"

"You can't ask billions of people to die for your cause," Klez says, "because they will not consent. In this case, if the Virus doesn't do it's job, I don't see a future for Zion. Mankind will always be enslaved to the Matrix."

"But if you could stop it, and you didn't, you would be happy with that because you think it is ok to let all those people die, is that right?"

"I would take no pleasure in billions of deaths. Nobody would."

"No-one's expecting you to, Klez. But you think it would be the right thing to do to let it happen?"

Klez pauses for a moment.

"If there was another way to win the war, then I would stop the Virus. But in all my years of service, I have not seen an alternative."

"Well, ok, Klez, I can understansd that. Here's something else to think about."

She takes another drag.

"You think you have the right to kill all those Machines?"

"Our war will never end unless we force them to surrender or find a means of negotiating with them. So far, they've given us no reason to think that either of those goals is attainable."

"That's not really answering my question now, is it?"

"I believe I have the right. I want to win this war."

"And you feel your wish to win this war gives you the right to murder an entire race?"

"If there was another way to end the war without killing the Machines, I would take it as well. But as it is, this war is going to end either with the death of the Machines or the death of mankind's future. So yes."

"Well, I'll try not to take that personally Klez. What about the Machine's future? See, I am interested in the logic that says that in order to stop a terrible thing happening, you will do something equally terrible. Doesn't seem to have solved much to me."

"No offense to you, Oracle," Klez replies, with a slight nod. "But I'm not fighting this war to find an equal ground between Man and Machines. I really don't see them coexisting. If one side is going to be destroyed, I don't want it to be mine."

"Why not? What's better about your side? Seems to me, all you proving there is that you are no better at all."

"Maybe there's nothing better at all. We could be worse, even. But it's the side I'm on."

Azrael goes down the 'wrong thing, right reasons' path.

I could comment, but I think Klez is doing okay, especially with that final answer. He's ignoring people when they talk about Jericho, now, though.

"So you don't care if your side is right or wrong, better or worse, good or evil? What do you fight for, Klez?"

"He fights for preservation of humanity. Just like Sennacherib fought for Machines." -Melkor comments Oracle`s last question.
