Community colleges are pretty cheap, I know, I am currently going to one. And the degrees you get aren't about getting a decent job right away, they're used to often get a scholarship to a better college afterwards, which WILL give you a degree that will net you a good job.
That sucks for your friend, but I have trouble thinking that when working two jobs, he couldn't at least take a class or two at a community college every semester. Unless he has ridiculous bills or something, or children to feed.
He can always sign up for student aid.

Most country's raise taxes over inherited money, not to mention that statistically speaking most family's have 2.something children.
So if your father would have 20 million and he would die, you would be left with 15 million split in 2... 7,5 million dollars. Hardly the amount that the owner of a multi billion dollar corporation would have.
Not to mention that people that lead corporations like that, aren't stupid. So they did follow an education and worked for it.

In a capitalistic economy everything is worth what you pay for it. Question and demand, it's how the world works.
We have far more nurses then we have great athletes and entertainers, yet we have more people asking for great athletes and entertainers.
Result, price for athletes and entertainers goes up price for nurses goes down.
It's that easy. Now if we would have more athletes and entertainers then nurses, nurses would be worth a lot more. But let's be honest here, a lot of people can become a nurse not a lot can become a successful athlete or entertainer.
