I haven't watched it yet [but I don't mind being spoiled]. People make references to Beckett's death scene. Does he not die in a truly villainous fashion? It seemed to me that he was truly the greatest representation of evil in the series, manipulating everyone like he did. If he went out like a Darth Vader as opposed to an Emperor Palpatine, I'll be disappointed.
Or do they do it in a good way?
The way it happened kind of reminding me of Titanic, actually.
I assume you know that Davy stabs Will in the heart, and to save him, Jack helps Will stab Davy's heart as he's dieing. Therefore, Will is the new captain of the Flying Dutchman.
So as it happens, Beckett isnt controling the FD anymore, so the FD and Black Pearl go on both sides of Beckett's ship and start shooting. They show Beckett's face which is just in pure shock because his ship starts blowing up. This guy next to him keeps asking for orders but Beckett can't seem to tell him. So, Beckett slowly turns and walks away. Then it shows him walking down the stairs of his ship and his hand on the handrail. Then like 2 seconds after he passes it, it will blow up. It does this 3 or 4 times, then it shows one last shot of him, then shows the ship blowing up entirley.
Granted, I've only seen the movie once [so far] so I could be a little off- but that's everything I remember.
But do you remember in Titanic when the captain goes into his room and just waits for the water to break in and drown him instead of helping people? Idk. That's what I thought of.
So I wouldn't call it really "villainous" but it wasn't stupid. I think Sao Fang's death is a little cheesy... I think he could of had a better way of death [you'll see. he gets this board stuck through his stomach lol].
But in all, Beckett's wasn't too bad. It was kind of exciting because you could see the pure shock that the pirates won, what else is new? :]
Huh.
Well, I suppose I have to see it to understand completely; but Beckett seemed very manipulative and very ruthless in his quest to end piracy. I was also told that he pretty much killed dozens of people in this movie, including a child, and that he killed Governor Swann and so forth. Pretty evil.
But, then again, I suppose if I were a fiendish mastermind and all of my plans just went to hell, I'd be shocked too.
Actually, here's my full review: http://www.angelfire.com/mi2/inkabunga/awereview.html
Erica, that review was brilliant. Long, but worth it. 🙂 That's precisely the way I felt about the film, every bit of it. I posted a somewhat shorter and less respectful review earlier on in this thread, but yours covered everything to a t.
i just know exactly what you mean about feeling so invested in the film, and then the football being snatched away. i was determined to like it, even if W/L ending happened, but I assumed IF W/L happened, the writers would brilliantly make it work, and unfortunately, that wasn't the case. I'm finally starting to snap out of the shock and trauma that I walked away with, so I may try seeing it again (with some good buddies to bury my face in during all the extreme violence) and try to give it another shot. But, more or less, I just need to say ditto to everything you said. I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt that way.
Thanks for sharing!
