So if they were following him, what kept them from finding out the location of his house sooner, and ransacking it then?
When she rescues him it was night and when she drove him back to his home it was just turning to dawn. They followed her to the house, yet couldn't attack because the sun had come up.

Yeah they were all outside and he kept having to move them from his drive in the morning.

Exactly.
Remember, this is a fictional movie, the creatures already have superhuman strength, speed, agility and they burn when sunlight hits them, sleeping while standing up doesn't seem like much of an implausible feat.
