saw this the other day... for the first hour and 20 mins, i thought the movie was pretty damn good, but seemed to end up just being rushed near the end...

one other complaint would be i'd have held off showing the infected a little longer (and make the movie longer), as once they were actually revealed, i thought they werent that impressive...

IA PR 1983. I really think they reshot the ending. I wonder if there will be a lot of deleted stuff on DVD because there were shots in the trailer that made it look like it would end the way it did in the book and those shots didn't make the movie

What shots would those be?

according to wikipedia (so i dont know if its true etc) there was another ending...

spoilers etc...

Spoiler:
Alternative ending
The tone of the ending of the film was altered dramatically before the film's release, with the majority of the changes made to the standoff between Neville and the infected in his laboratory. Janek Sirrs recounts the original ending starting with the standoff, "At that point, Neville's - and the audience's - assumptions about the nature of these creatures are shown to be incorrect. We see that they have actually retained some of their humanity. There is a very important moment between the alpha male and Neville." David Schaub stated, "Then, when Neville finally turns the alpha female over to the alpha male, there is this little love moment between the two of them." The infected then retrieve the captured female and spare Neville's life. The original final shot follows Neville, Anna, and the boy as they cross the remnants of the George Washington Bridge in hopes of finding other survivors.

there were other reshoots too apparently...

my main actual gripe was the length of the movie... if they'd added on 45 mins and delayed the infected a little more, i'd have been alot happier with it...

I'll tell you why I was so let down. 3 major things.

1) The CGI was terrible..
2) Will Smith made me uncomfortable..he was too out there..
3) It got so drawn out towards the end that I lost interest..

The spoiler alternative ending is even worse. Ugh.

The infected people should've looked more realistic and Will Smith should've lived.

I felt that Will Smith's performance was excellent. He was supposed to be "out there." His character truly believed that he would never see another human being ever again.

I think he believed he would find the cure and save them, therefore seeing them fully human again.

Saw it today, the dogs dying part mad me sad. And it seemed pointless to spend hours a day training if they're that much stronger anyway. He should've spent that time researching or something...

Is it just me thought thought it was a bit short?

There's a limit in how much you can work, before you go insane or lose your ability to think clearly. I'd suspect being in good shape would help him in the long run, as he had no idea how long (if ever) it would be until he found a cure. Also of note, he really could have just worked out 1-2 hours a day, we just saw him doing a few things, there's no reason to think he spent 5+ hours working out.

The dog dieing was a great (needed?) part of the movie, it showed us just how close he was to losing his grip on the situation.

He seemed pretty sane to me/all-there, which is would take a strong person in that situation.

He needs to keep healthy too, not just to be strong against them. He has more chance of keeping healthy working out than not, because if something goes wrong, there are no doctors about if he can't fix it himself...

the movie has a great story but it was a sad ending.

Umm......where did I say that I didn't accept it? I didn't read the book so I have no right to refute that.

I did see the movie.....if I don't want to refer to them as vampires, which they technically are not, then so be it. You'll have to accept that.

I asked a question, got an answer. No problem. Move on. Don't create problems that are not there.

I didn't know there was a "technical" definition of a vampire.

"He needs to keep healthy too, not just to be strong against them. He has more chance of keeping healthy working out than not, because if something goes wrong, there are no doctors about if he can't fix it himself..."-----MildPossession

Exactly. In the book, it mentions how he also pays a lot of attention to his teeth since there are no dentists around either. And exercise connects so much to your mental health. I thought Will Smith did a great job and made his character realistic. It was unfortunately the most realistic thing about the movie since the creatures looked fake to me.

If the vampires had better CGI, it would've made this film so so much better for me. I've seen better graphics in movies 5 years older.

The one that sticks out the most to me is Will Smith standing up and the creature growling in his ear and he's looking at it from the side. It's like they have him restrained or something.

I was waiting for that shot throughout the whole movie!!!
