The word "N*gger" has an entire history that gives reason for offense, cracker doesn't.Of course "reason for offense" depends on how easily offended you are. Some people know the history of the word and don't find it offensive, but I think it's naive to suggest that the words are equal.
"N*gger" isn't solely offensive just because it's a derogatory word aimed at black people, it's what the word means and implies.

"N!gger" wasn't always offensive, it's roots come from the Spanish word for black; "Negro" and in turn from the Latin; "Niger"...
It become offensive when a negative intent was applied to it in the 1800's versus black slaves.
So, why isn't "cracker" as offensive if it is used with the same intent to insult?

It doesn't matter where they were inspired to create the word, what matters is how, why and when it was used. More relevantly, to whom.
"N*gger" has a much more significant past and history than "Cracker".

it is a fact. they are both words, but i guarantee you a good 80 percent of the population (at least) is vastly more offended by the word n*gger. and unless you misunderstand white privilege, it's no more or less bullshit today than it was thirty years ago. and i don't want you to agree, just acknowledge.i can't believe you're not getting this. the intent isn't lesser, but there's more to words than intent. all racial issues aside, you must certainly recognize the place of context, meaning, and reception?
i'm not arguing any of this on a logical level, because race issues are some of the most illogical damn things humankind has to experience. i'm arguing this on the level of reality, which you don't seem to be getting.
"people are more offended by the word n*gger than the word cracker.
the REASON people are more offended by that word involves context, meaning, and reception." can you honestly argue this? disagree with the minutae all you want, but do you actually believe these two simple statements not to be the case?

Why? Because society says so... So in 150 years or so "Cracker" will/can somehow gain some power to be offensive in of itself.
If "n!gger" did indeed have some ability to just be offensive regardless of the intent behind the user, then it would be as offensive when a black person used it.
Funny thing too, "n!gger" is seen as most offensive when a "white man" says it, non-blacks as long as they're not classified or seen as "white" do not get as much negatives when saying "n!gger", it's double standard B.S.

Let's keep in mind that just because because fist lives in a predominantly racist area doesn't mean he deals with it everyday. Besides he just post this forum just shortly ago because he was shocked which clearly states (shocked=surprised) that it doesn't happen all the time to him.
I wasn't really shocked. I raised an inquisitive brow to ask if that's what he said because he was mumbling. It happens here as much as it shouldn't. I mean it's not 60's era racism but it's not shocking to know a non-Black say the N word, in offense, in this city.

Well here I am. The Fistofthe North Star in the flesh. This pic was taken about a month ago at my sister's wedding.I'm Latino but i've been told i look Black, Cape Verdian and even Ethiopian. But nope, i'm an American Dominican.
I wouldn't think black, I would have guessed Dominican or Puerto Rican. I live in an area with a wide variety people, so I have more insight than some guy from a small town in Kansas.

I can relate because it has happen to me on the subway as well, the only difference is this prick had the heart to inflict body contact. Not only did he call me a ****** as he stood across from me and smiled in my face, but on his way getting off the train he deliberately stepped on my foot and brushed me with his shoulder. So I grabbed him by his stringy hair and pulled him in to my clutches putting him in my famous choke hold, trying to snuff the life out that dude. Fortunately for him witnesses broke it up, it felt great though. Bet his ass will think twice next time he wants to disrespect someone.
Damn, but you could've gotten arrested, someone may've told on you all because you gave into his words.
Honestly to me, kicking that guys arse would've just made me angrier. I would've been pissed off even more just because I was in that situation in the first place and that I had to end up fighting with an idiot like him for such a reason like that. And if i did beat him up i don't think i would've been happy or satisfied that i hurt someone else. Violence won't change what someone truly believes. Look at the middle-east with this war with all the sh*t going on over there. The Iraqi's will never change their ideology, no matter hard hard the U.S. hits.
I dunno. And I'm just not that angry with myself or life like that. I don't find pleasure in someone else's pain.

What area are you in?
Bay Area CA... I lived (for the past 29 years) about 10-15 miles North of the Golden Gate Bridge,I've been surrounded by a diversity of people the majority of my life; it's the reason I'd know you weren't black African compared to someone who hasn't had the different cultural contact and influences.
