Thor Discussion

Some really big news has been released today.

First off, the current Thor title is going to be renamed as Journey into the Mystery, and it's going to be written by Gillen and drawn by Doug Braithwaite! Loki is going to be the main character working from the shadows and assembling teams to do his bidding etc. And not just Asgardians, but cosmic, magic and god affiliated characters (Mephisto, some Chaos War recruits etc.):

The main Thor title is going to be relaunched as The Mighty Thor and the creators are Matt Fraction and Oliver Coipel:

The first arc is called the Galactus Seed and it's going to be Galactus attempting to consume Asgard -the last time he tried Odin chased him off supposedly- because of a seed Thor pulls out of the World Tree.

Surfer vs. Thor, and Galactus vs. Asgard. Kind of split on this because on one hand it could be potentially really fun but I have absolutely no idea how Matt Fraction views Thor in relation to other characters or powerhouses much less Asgard.

I'm hoping it's mostly Odin vs. Galactus. I'd hate for there to be some plot device that prevents them from battling. If his current run is any indication, Surfer and Thor are going to do more debating and less fighting.

Looking forward to Gillen's book more so far.

Isn't Asgard in the middle of recovering from a huge siege rape?

Hopefully Galactus will one-shot the one-eyed sucker.

and its also good Oliver Coipel is doing the art with Matt not really a big fan of the one thats working with him at the moment.

actually the latest story has Odin back and Asgard possibly returning to its proper place

I just want to see Thor kick Surfer's ass for like the fourth time (Fingers crossed).

And Odin stalemating Galactus wouldn't hurt.

Those showings would end a lot of debates, or at least piss off a lot of people.

I dont know I want Odin back from the dead in current marvel he is likely to have the Odin Force drained by Cho using his gameboy and getting punched out by the Hulk 🙁

Pak wrote a great Incredible Hercules series -until he started forcing Amadeus on us- and Planet Hulk was also good. Other than that, his stories have been sh*t.

I'm conflicted. Fraction has been astoundingly bad -especially compared to the last 3 runs (Oeming, JMS, Gillen)- and nothing of what he said instilled me any confidence, but at the same time, if Thor kicks ass.......

I'm a sell out. I'll look to Gillen's comic for meaningful and good stories, and hopefully Fraction will be feat heavy. If not, and he continues with this incredibly out of character portrayals, I might consider dropping Thor for the first time. Like ever.

IMHO Marvel has messed up the Thunder God big time. Post-Onslaught, he was back at his classic era power levels, and it was fine, his comics looked great, and he was the powerhouse he deserved to be. Then he became King Thor, and after The Reign story-arc, he was stripped of the Odin Force and became classic Thor again, then became Rune King Thor, the strongest sky father of the earth pantheons, then he came back getting his ass kicked by Red Hulk, claw injuries from Wolverine, being put on his knees by Osborn wearin' an IM suit plus U-Foes blasting him. I don't get what's wrong with Marvel seriously, this UP and DOWN on the character is just wrong. Keep it consistent, and make some good stories. Olympians have been forgotten, Asgargians in the last 3 years got their ass kicked everytime, Ragnarok, Siege, there was a time in which mortals wouldn't even imagine to invade Asgard, cause Odin, Thor, the Warriors Three and Sif, would have removed them from existence without troubles. Now look at it...Asgard is in pieces...Thor is a joke who receives occasional power ups...bah

I quite hope that

Balder and Tyr's death in in #619 isn't permanent as it just screamed "SHOCK VALUE" over a narrative reason other than Odin getting pissy, specially seeing the fact that Gillen just started to develop Tyr as a character.
