again....not showing what RK was doing before the beat down.

Yeah, but we have 1:15 of him crying and lying on the ground being beaten.

Look, we all appreciate what the police does for us, but taseing and beating helpless people is just not in their job description. To protect and serve not to beat and electorcute...or so I hear.

THIS TIME, with RK, they were indeed excessive.

This time, as well, he was whimpering and begging them not to tase him, what thread was he then or even before?

Yeah, we didn't see everything, but what we saw is enough.

I don't. Really.

I did. I was saying that this time (the one this thread is about) as well as the Rodney King video are alike in that aspect. The cops torture a guy that is no danger whatsoever.

so you WERE referring to this newer incident? fine. I told you that if you wanted to see my opinion on this newer incident to see my previous posts.

Why does what the kid did before he was subdued and on the ground even matter?

And I told you that I don't.

are you kidding? thats everything....if he swung at a cop, tried to unholster their firearm, pulled a knife.....tell me you get what I am saying.

Ask RJ, he's under the impression that police are allowed "revenge beatings". He doesn't understand that once a suspect is subdued, the use of further force is illegal.

Okay, so say he did.

That excuses them tasering him when he's down on the ground, surrounded by cops with his arms held, how?

That's not defending yourself, that's attacking someone who's helpless.

Lets say the student cooperated, left the forum, and afterwards took up legal matters. What could he have done? What would his grounds be?

My thought is that he may have been able to bring a successful civil case against the university, but not really...

It depends on what happened. However, since the mic was cut (and I don't think the police would have been able to do that at a university) I'm thinking the people running the show cut the mic and were like "get this nut job out of here." From there it escalated out of control.

Lets note: The guy says "so now you are arresting me?" well before any arresting takes place, and only when then are escorting him away.

The university has the right to place a time limit on questions and to expell people from lectures. We can disagree about the force the police used, but be honest: You are hosting a forum with a presidential candidate. A belligerant and aggressive person runs to the front of the line and begins verbally assaulting John Kerry, ranting about conspiracy theories, and is being altogether uncoopertive. At the time they cut his mic he showed no sign of slowing down, and the people even appplauded his removal by police. You would have got rid of the guy too, it was the responsible thing to do.

this is why I moved on to the legal aspects that the student could have taken up had he acted like a rational human being.

by all means, continue, if it makes you feel better. wanker

Awww, resorting to immature smilies to make yourself feel better because everyone is pointing out how incredibly wrong you are. How cute.

Sure, he could have just stepped down.

Or the cops could have, you know, NOT attacked him when he was already on the ground and absolutely no threat to anyone.

I cannot believe someone would try and defend this sort of behaviour. If someone is a danger, then you take care of it WHEN they're being threatening. Not later when they're subdued and can't do anything.

glad you think I am being cute. 😄

and he SHOULD have just stepped down, none of this would have happened if he would have either:

a. stepped down

b. behaved like a responsible adult

I don't even know if I would say he was doing anything wrong. However, if the people running the show wanted him out, they are allowed to kick him out.

Honestly, I think we are missing the HUGE fact that this kid is NUTS. He believed the police were going to kill him, he was afraid to go with them or even be in an elavator with them. His action of running away was because he probably has some mild schizotype conditions 😉 (ok, maybe not, but certainly paranoia). Me or you don't feel that way, so the need to run from the cops is a little bit less...

remember, mental health is as important as physical health, support your local therapists 😉
