Why do parents hide sex from there kids?

I learned about sex back in elementary school the old fashioned way; by watching the movie "Boyz N Da Hood."

All that movie taught me was that running straight while a gun is pointed at you instead of sideways in an alley is foolish.

Parents hide sex from there kids until the "PROPER" age simply b/c the concept of sex is too mature for them.

Kids don't drive until a certain age....drink til a certain age.....smoke til a certain age......learn about sex until a certain age.

And watching people get blown in half in Saw isn't too mature? You're all ignoring my point which is why is it more acceptable in society for kids to be exposed to violence but not sex?

Yes, violence is too mature. Never said it wasn't

I'm just discussing the topic of this thread: "SEX", not violence. Thus why it wasn't included in topics too mature for young children.

Entirely false.

Kids can't LEGALLY drink or smoke 'til a certain age, they do it anyway and are sometimes no worse off for it.

The reason I didn't go out at 18 and get plastered is because my parents exposed me to alcohol responsibly when I was younger and I learned that it's quite shit and therefore didn't need to.

I was underage, way underage, when I had my first drink.

Yeah, and my point was the fact that they are there for a reason doesn't mean everybody should adhere to them, because you can not do so and be fine, and responsible.

That said, your point was void because there's no law stating what ages kids can learn sex at. Parents can teach them whenever they want.

The point was that AGE is a HUGE factor as to when certain things should be exposed to kids..........which is a publicly accepted thing.

Kids having to be certain ages to drink, drive, smoke, vote and all those types of things posing as a prime example.

It's a huge factor to some, not to others. It being accepted by the public makes it no more true.

They're not, though. Because it's at the point now where kids smoke and drink anyway, and those laws honestly might as well not be there. Drinking I can sort of understand, because it makes you drunk and not-lucid, smoking doesn't. Even still, they're ignored and it proves that it's not an example of anything.

Knowing about sex at a young age doesn't have a law because there's nothing societally negative that can come of it. It's an individual thing, as smoking is and as drinking can be.

The right to vote is an entirely different matter, it's restricted because a kid having a vote on something that affects everybody seriously, is not a good idea. Even if you explained politics to them, they wouldn't understand it.

So your laws example doesn't work here.

You do not know that the reason parents don't tell their kids (And it's not all parents) is because there are laws that prevent kids from doing other things.

I'd say that's not even the case often at all.

No, the whole law and age thing was just other examples of age appropriateness.

The other stuff I said was pertaining to as to why parents wait to tell their kids about sex if ever, such as how mature the concept of sex is and how it isn't something a kid needs to be exposed to at certain ages.

A) It doesn't prove appropriateness, since that is subjective.

B) It's not a matter of when the kid "needs" it. It's when the parents decide to.

Yes, but you raising the idea of when a kid "needs" to know and ages of legal acts doesn't mean anything.

It differs entirely, it's not about when kids need to know, and "old enough" is subjective.
