The Future Of Gaming

Well let's see; most games out are basically shooters and you seem advertisement for shooters (Gears of War, BioWare, Call of Duty 4, Halo 3, heck even Metroid Prime 3) but then you see a Mario game with Mario facing off against giant creatures traveling through space. Compared to what is being advertised to many Mario would seem like the exciting one because it's not a shooter that's always being advertised so the person who was thinking about gaming would most likely give Mario instead of Gears, BioWar, CoD, Halo, or Metroid because to them they seem to be basically the same game; you run around and shoot.

Most games are shooters? BUZZ wrong answer. There's thousands of games that are huge that aren't shoot'em'ups, e.g. Sport games, Warcraft, Gran Theft Auto (not strictly speaking a shooter solo that makes it what it is), Pokémon, Zelda, Movie related Games, Need for speed, Final Fantasy...... I could go on, but i think you get the point 😛

And most of the games there have had much better advertisements of late than Mario. Though what you say is true, most games in the top say 20 are Shooters, not all of them bar Mario are, and the ones that aren't would appeal alot more than Mario IMO.

And yet how many would someone who hasn't played a game know of? They would know games being advertised most on TV which is mainly shooters. Some fighters and RPGs but with all the commercials for shooters such as Halo 3 or BioShock they are overlooked. When it comes down to it the ones who never cared about a video game won't get into it just by seeing a shooter commercial followed by another commercial for another shooter and pretty soon the non-gamer only sees the same thing; shooting because that's pretty much what's being showed.

And yet most people will look only at the few being advertised like Gears of War, Halo 3, BioShock, Metroid Prime 3, and not see commercials or anything for other games like Twilight Princess or Tekken 6. In fact the only commercials I have seen for a game that's not a shooter is for Phantom Hourglass on the DS (and some sports and crappy Wii games; but come on those gay carnival games on the Wii won't make someone go get a console). Seeing the same genre advertised to the non-gaming crowd pretty much convinces those non-gamers that video games would be the same thing.

Well i admit i don't watch TV that much, but i haven't seen a Mario advert since Sunshine. Last Sonic advert was Shadow's game, Choose good or Evil etc....

5 minutes ago however there was an advert of Heavenly Sword for the PS3. Plus i haven't seen a shooter advert since Bioshock, and that was a few weeks ago.

Shooter adverts obviously aren't as spammed over here in England as they are at your end.

Longest time a game was advertised on TV that i myself can recall was Prince of Persia 2, Followed by World of Warcraft each lasting over 2 months on adverts on TV when they were released. Yes i know other games have lasted much longer even if i don't know which games, but thats not the point.

You seriously didn't see all the Twilight Princess advertisments? they were everywhere, TV, internet, Posters, Magazines for months before their Due release, Promotions in game stores....

Tekken always has commercials on TV and is always splashed all over any Game Magazine i see in the shop down the road

Oookay then, If you say so I'll believe you because I don't live within 1,000 miles of you, and it shows by this. I know if a new Halo comes out i can expect to see 6ft cardboard images of Master Chief in a store. But Bioshock, and the others you mentioned weren't advertised any bigger than a normal game IMO.

I'm not that into gun games, but i think your wrong when you say they above all others are shoved in our faces, that is not true, and I don't think that causes less people to go into gun games, and more into Mario and Sonic.

You can see how recent sales records have shown that Less and less people in terms of % of the gaming comminty are buying the Mario & Sonic games. Sure, the numbers of sales are going up, that doesn't mean the % of people playing them who play games or who are coming into games is rising too. Infact when you look at it that way, those two are indeed losing out big time to Halo and other games. Warcraft too is gobbling up more and more people into it's addictive gameplay. It appears your trying to make out Mario, Sonic and the like will be immortal as game characters, that simple is not the case.

wow
that video was so fukin well put together
i like zoned out watching that video
crazy......

erm...what?

Yeah but on PC, theres not much else besides shooters. You're pretty much either playing an MMO or a shooter nowadays. Sucks ass, they need something like a Mario or Zelda made for PC to counter it.

You missed the point. To the casual gamer or the newbie Gears of War is just the same as Halo 3, Call of Duty 4, BioShock (why did I put BioWare before?), and Metroid Prime 3 but compared to Super Mario; Mario stands out the most.

Same thing for Mario, Sonic, Banjo Kazooie etc...all you do is run around collecting coins/rings.srug

Not really. Sure you have shooters and MMOs for the PC but you also have RTS games as well. Not to mention action games like Star Wars or Elder Scrolls.

Not really. When being advertised they don't show just running around like most shooters would do. Take Mario Sunshine for example; it should the usage of FLUDD as well as boss battles that would make it stand out to Sonic or that poor excuse for a game; Bango Kazooie. Sonic's commercials on the other hand puts more in showing speed and I don't give a crap about Banja Kazooie. And even the trailer of Mario Galaxy doesn't show a lot of platforming but space travel and boss battles.

lmao? huh? broaden your PC gaming then, your obviously looking in the wrong place, PC is best for Shooters, RTS and MMO and furthermore some of the best RPG's rated are on the system, and best action/rpg games like Elder scrolls that ESB stated

but no it doesnt have final fantasies

Only 11 is on the PC. Every other Final Fantasy game is console/handheld only.

No, that's wrong. There are PC versions of FF games. I know at least VII and VIII have PC versions because I have several friends who played them that way.

That is true Like FF III is now on the DS they have been Ported to PC
