I think I have a psychological issue with Zangief.

I can't use him for the life of me and I tend to be ridiculously scared of him whenever I face someone using him. FKN tank.

Same here. I cant do s**t with the character if I pick him but If I fight him I have to be jumping all the time or fighting from afar because 8/10 that f*ing @$$ will grab and slam me.

Lol, you should've seen CE/HF Gief back in the days...like 3-4 SPD's and the match was over, nothing else included, rofl. This is without a doubt the BEST Gief since Hyper Fighting. He's so strong, has great range, damage, and his Lariat is ridiculous as an AA. However, the trick to taking on a good Zangief is to keep him outside of his sweet spot, meaning outside of the range of his SPD, cross ups or what not shenanigans.

Obviously some characters can do this better then others, however it is the central key of beating Zangief. I don't want to break down super details of how I do it. Just practice and learn from what I said. If you can force Gief outside of his sweet speed more often then not, you will most likely get the win.

Yes master!

And you are right. The one thing I noticed about Zangief was how much health he has and how strong he is. I hit him dozens of time and yet with just 1 throw he pretty much makes me lose the advantage if not flat out make me cry in agony.

Zangief is a ***** to play against, but I have good luck using Cammy against gief. Last night I was doing a ranked match and the guy picked Gief, I went Cammy, and I won. He had 2k BP's, I only had 300, beating him gave me like 130 bp's.

I didn't know people took "ranked" match so seriously.

I kept getting my ass beat by challengers because I kept trying new chars out(plus using the same char over and over again is boring) and they severely beat me with their good chars. That 2 days ago. Today I decided to go player match style and I haven't been beaten. Ugh.

I actually just started doing ranked matches only yesterday in any real manner. Before that I was playing player matches, they're much more enjoyable, you get more people who are willing to just have fun and mess around with characters. Ranked though, everyone picks ryu, ken or Sagat because it's easiest to win with them. And half of the people leave the game early before they lose. I always pick Blanka in ranked matches, totally throws their shit off. I just beat 3 people with 1500+ BP's using Blanka while I had 500-600BP's. Bet they weren't happy.

But yes, I will probably go back to player matches soon, they're more fun and people are less gay in them.

They need to make lobbies with room for more players.

SGS is soooo retarded in this game.. like in CvS2, I could SGS anytime I felt like it (as in, actually start the move up).. whether it was waking up, landing from a whiff.. after guard stun..

but this game it feels completely dumbed down.. like I'm forced to do the command much slower in order to actually procure some kind of success.. its really pissing me off

SGS??

Gouki's Raging Demon super/ultra.

It would be cool if the foreign characters could be edited to speak their national language. i.e. El Fuerte/Vega = Spanish, Chun Li = Chinese, Zangief = Russian and so on.

some game does that. i forgot what it is though

Tekken5 did it. Though you couldn't edit it.

Someone needs to shoot in the foot the guy with the brilliant idea to give the 360's controller such a gay ass dpad.

i'd rather them shoot the mad catz people for not making enough controllers to go around. i soooo want one

It's like I said on another forum, it seems like as though the makers from Microsoft when making the 360 controller completely neglected to think that players would actually have to use the dpad for fighters 😕 .

Anyhow, dunno if I told this here, but remember the Gamestop tournament not too long ago for SF:IV. Well, obviously I'm retired right, however my old boss from GS calls me and tells me to come join the tournament, which obviously I declined to do so.

However he had free pizza and drinks for the workers and since him and I are really cool together, he got me to come join to get free food and drinks...can any man seriously decline? So yeah, I get there and there's only 17 people who showed up atm, out of the like...multiple people who actually signed up. So I'm eating my pizza, and obviously the subject of SF:IV came up, and of course, I'm going on preaching to my bosses and his co-workers about how Zangief is not the best character in the game, and that Sagat did not get nerfed in the home release therefore he is still the #1 character in the game.

Then obviously it went to 3S Parry rocks for them...and I had to knock them down and tell them why 3S Parry fails and yadi yada. Anyhow, my boss starts saying to all of the entry players that I was an OG SF player who use to go in tournies.

Since we were still waiting to see if more players showed up, they got interested and started to ask to play me. I again respectfully declined...and I knew what my old boss was trying to do...that bastard (lol). Anyhow, after a long neg by them, and some cocky comments from the tournie entry players, I decided to accept, however only casuals. I told them that since we are playing on the 360 pad, that I would need at least 30 mins to try and familiarize myself with the controllers. So we did that, and I started to mess around with it...and wow...the 360 controllers are absolutely atrocious, and ridiculous.

The creators when making the 360 controller must've thought that only FPS games would be made for it, and that it would never be used for fighting games at all. Anyhow, after about 40 mins of practicing and all, and playing around with some of the tournie players, I got my stuff to execute around 75% of the time (meaning things like FADCing etc, etc).

Funny part was, they were beating me during this time frame when I was trying to get used to the controller and thought that I wasn't as good as claimed. However, once the casual gaming started, and I picked Ryu they were like. "Wow, another Ryu player?"...and I just chuckled and nodded my head. I don't know how many sets I played, however I challenged ALL 17 of the tournament players, and even the co-workers there who said that they were solid in this game.

Anyhow the results was this...I didn't even lose a single set, in fact, I didn't even lose a single round period. My old boss was laughing so hard watching it and he was like "Show them mercy!" and I was like "I can barely do my moves half the time, I should consider that mercy." It got so bad that I dropped Ryu and started to use Claw...yes, you know, Claw a.k.a. Vega. I was STILL beating their pants off, gosh forbid it was bad, and alot of times I was playing around. Funny thing was there was three guys who were solid in the game, one of them was using Zangief and he played a solid Gief.

I decided to choose Gief myself and mirror match him, and well...my Gief>>>His Gief. Although I couldn't land the 360 as consistently as I would using the garbage 360 dpad, I was playing a mean game. Whenever he jumped in too early and landed...SPD for me. Or if I blocked his jump in...SPD. I punished him for it, and made him think twice. It was obvious that he was getting frustrated and downright pissed off, by his rants from time to time, and all.

However I will note this, it would have been 10x worse if I could actually execute my moves on call. Because half the time, I would do things with Ryu like ShoryukenxxFADC and I couldn't do Ultra after...rofl. If it had been a J-Stick I would do everything on call 99.9% of the time. Also, I was lenient in that I wasn't trying half the time either. Seriously, I was moving left and right with Ryu, and I basically had them in the palm of my hands...because alot of people were too scared to even throw out anything.

Anyways, even though if I had join, I would have won easily and cleanly, I still declined. As I said to them, I was retired, and no more fighting games on a serious lvl (meaning competition) for me. So once nobody else showed up, the tournament went down, and I left about halfway through it, so I don't know who actually won.

So yeah, that was my time at the GameStop SF:IV tournament, rofl, some of my cousins should've went to join, they would have easily, easily won it. The reason why they didn't join the GS tournament was because of the 360 pad, default settings...since they are as solid as I am, if they had just gone and practice up pre-tournament, they would have taken it, infact, they would have all been in the top placings.

Oh well, it was entertaining, I got to eat my free pizza

😄

The d-pad is frustrating. I am not a tournament-caliber player, but I know damn well I can execute basic combos, specials and ultras without problem. The fricking Dpad works whenever it wants to. Some matches I can do stuff all right and in another I feel like a scrub since half my shit doesn't execute when I know I'm doing it right.

Anyways....At least its the same for everyone without an arcade stick.
