Thanos on the other hand can manipulate energy/matter same as Silver Surfer. That can also play in role why Thanos is major weakness for Silver Surfer

That's neither here nor there, I'm not even talking about who wins, just mentioning that Thanos has beaten him with his fists. When it comes to the question about whether Superman can hurt Surfer: there it is.

I'm not too sure Surfer just leeches from him. It's not like Supes has solar energy radiating freely from his body, it's converted to bio energy in his cells or the radiation itself is just a means to actually unlock the power that is already in his cells (as some Kryptonians have mentioned).
Superman may not be - by conventional definitions - an energy manipulator but he does control his internal energies.
I don't think Surfer can just stand at a distance and leech Supes power. For one his powers have nothing to do with the power cosmic (Supes powers are influenced by his genetics which in turn are influenced by the godwave) and secondly, Superman controls his own energy field.
surfer can rewrite/write DNA so superman's genetic makeup is a function of Surfer's imagination.
also, Surfer can and would easily drain Superman's energies, no matter what internal conversions Superman's body does. Surfer's already evolved a planet (and beings) billions of years, what makes you think that he lacks the ability to control bio-energy?

Superman has been drained of his solar radiation before, by a guy who most would agree has not shown the level of versatility the Surfer has.
Besides this, Surfer has done the same to the Hulk - leeching his power and transforming him back to Banner. Now, he was touching him to do that - but the idea that Surfer is going to get one-shotted or absolutely dominated if he lets Superman get close is laughable. Norrin Radd isn't made of glass.

During the Infinite Gauntlet storyline after Warlock took the gauntlet, the Hulk and Draxx tried to grab Thanos and he backhanded them away. He told them they know nothing of real strength, so I'd say he is stronger than Supes, so getting pummeled by Thanos just proves he can be pummeled. This fight is a mismatch, and anyone with sense knows it.
