The problem I see is a double standard. I have no problem seeing surfer beating Superman. But if he does then he definitely beats Thor too. Thor can't beat Surfer while Superman loses. Superman is far faster and has faster reactions than Thor. Hell I think if Surfer beats Superman then he beats Thanos.
So either Surfer fights like a moron and loses to Thor, Thanos, and Superman or he beats all of them in a forum fight.
Why do you need better combat feats when Surfer has the ability to do a variety of things to weaken Superman? Creating kryptonite is one thing, generating some red sun radiation is another. I also wouldn't be surprised if he couldn't just straight up drain the solar energy from his cells.

Thor has less exploitable weaknesses and not to mention an incredibly powerful magic hammer that in itself is more or less a plot device weapon. Also Superman can't defeat Thanos, so I don't know why Surfer defeating Superman would mean he beats Thanos.
Originally posted by SurturKryptonite is off limits. Red solar radiation is viable but Superman is able to avoid it with evasive maneuvers or it would only be a microexposure before Superman pops him. Thor and Thanos will have a hard time hitting Surfer. Surfer has shields, speed and maneuvers, intangibility, and energy absorption. If Thor and Thanos can hit Surfer then Superman can 100 times easier.

Originally posted by Surturit was shown that only kryptonite from Superman's universe works on him. And a mod ruling that Surfer can't miraculously make kryptonite from other universes. He can't make kryptonite anyway since he wouldn't know it's chemical makeup by just knowing it's name.
Why is kryptonite off limits? Also why would "black hole blasts" hurt Thanos?
Black holes have infinite ripping power at the singularity. Thanos or any physical being will be utterly destroyed touching one. Now some Heralds can survive inside the event horizon of one, but that's not the same thing. Plus Thanos has been injured from being inside an artificial one. Surfer puts one in each of Thanos eyes.

But he could alter Superman's DNA to the point that he would no longer gain any benefits from the solar radiation. This isn't really something that he can do to Thor. Thanos is simply out of his reach.

As a default, durability protects against matter manipulation to a degree. Resistance against things that can change one's molecular structure (Radiation, heat, acid, event horizons from black holes, etc.) implies natural resistance against matter manipulation.
Surfer can't matter manipulate adamantium or caps shield as easy as normal steel (if at all). Otherwise we would get a no limits fallacy allowing Surfer to matter manipulate any physical being, regardless of their durability.
