STAR WARS: RETROSPECTION- The Hunted

"[Oh, not good]," Eerin growls. He reaches for his sonic pistol, then thinks that he might possibly have a better option strapped across his back. He pulls forth his rocket launcher, locking on to Corl once he has it ready...

(Blasted Weequay! Never did like them much. Kyle will Run! Run! Run!)

Staggering to your feet, Kyle, you realize that maybe you will not be walking away from this one. As you turn to run, there is a distinct thwip! as Ahaz launches another set of steel bolas from his tangle gun. No avoiding this one; Ahaz puts a Fortune point into his shot. The thick chord wraps itself around your chest, restricting your arms.

To ensure that you will not escape, the Weequay opens fire again. One of his shots burns into your leg, knocking you to the ground as you take 7 damage. At 84 damage, you take another Death Check... and fail.

This was too much even for you, Kyle Ragnor, the smuggler extraordinaire.

Ahaz approaches, reloading his tangle gun.

"Well, well," Ahaz chuckles. "You weren't as difficult as I thought you'd be..."

-

No reservations from Corl about the rocket launcher. He is going to charge you down and flay you with the halberd...

Eerin squeezes the trigger, firing twin proton rockets that spiral toward the Gundark and explode upon impact in a tremendous burst of orange flames. He then scrambles to his feet and puts more distance between himself and the monster, preparing to let loose another rocket.

While Kyle comes up with a witty reply, let's see how Eerin fairs...

The double-volley of proton rockets is away, Eerin! You roll a 12... a Near Hit. Unfortunately, with Corl's great Strength and thick hide, the heat and conscussion from the resulting explosion is not enough to waylay him. The rockets burst against the roof you stand upon, blowing holes in it. Corl strides straight through the blasts, taking no damage from the attack.

The Gundark is upon you! Think fast, Bugboy.

(So, this whole death check fail... Am I knocked out or disabled or dying or..? Might make a difference on which witty reply I choose.)

Conscious but unable to really do anything about the bounty hunter and his thug standing over you, more or less. That being said, your pistol has fallen into the sand a little ways from you.

Gah! Eerin will throw himself sideways in an active dodge!

Kyle hears the explosion in the not too distant distance and grins, "Hear that, it was Eerin's rocket launcher? There went your pet Gundark. You might want to rethink your plan here. Eerin will be extremely unhappy to see where you got me. No gundark, no Rodian, you're running out of cheats, Cheat. How does that fancy shield work against rockets?"

Corl brings the electro-halberd across in a wide swing to catch you in the side with the axe-head. Throwing yourself away from the axe minimizes your chances of being vivisected, but you keep your axe sharp and it deals you 8 damage as it cuts into your side.

Picking yourself up, you have a chance to get clear and bring the rocket launcher back into the mix. The twin rockets spiral in again with a whooshing sound and impact on the roof of the building... but it is a Near Hit on a 10. If Gundarks could laugh, Corl would.

But your rockets have weakened the roof. It starts to crack beneath Corl's tremendous weight... but it holds enough for Corl to perform another savage charge, aiming to skewer you with your own weapon.

-

"Perhaps you haven't noticed," Ahaz scoffs. "But Gundarks are particularly resilient lifeforms. I've trained my pet well. No rocket launcher is going to put him down easy..."

The Weequay starts to laugh, a stupid guffaw.

Eerin throws himself sideways once more, out of the path of the rampaging Gundark.

"Ha! You haven't studied your prey, then. Eerin loves that rocket launcher like a Hive-mate. No one handles one better. I'm not concerned.
(Ok, making a plan here. Kyle wants to take stock of his surroundings. I;ve got some Luck and Fortune to spend here. Just where am I at and what objects (obstacles?) are nearby? So far I'm thinking grab the gun, kill the Weekway, if I can. That'll help if Eerin really can get here. Note to Eerin, quit playing with that thing and get over here, I need you!)

In your current condition, even being an ace with a blaster pistol, shooting anyone is out of the question. Your injuries have rendered you weak. On top of that, you still have the thick wire restricting your movements. Your legs, however, are unbound.

You are laying down on a sandy street in Mos Eisley. Lots of buildings around; houses, bars, offices, etcetera. Not a great deal of people.

Ahaz slings his tangle gun across his back and draws his blaster pistol.

"I never study my prey," Ahaz says. "You're all the same. Hotshots who think they're all that and think they can get away with anything. But luck is only on your side for so long, my friend."

-

This is simply not your best day, Eerin. Laden down by the rocket launcher, it is difficult for you to get clear. You receive a fierce jolt as the electrified spike scratches against your armor, inflicting another 8 damage. This takes you to 66 damage, with a -2 penalty.

Without time to move away, Eerin, you come under attack once more...

Eerin abandons his rocket launcher, seeing it as futile as the heavy weapon, despite its firepower, is only slowing him down and making him an easy target. He tosses it down and prepares to dodge on his Combat score; the first opportunity he gets he will perform a Trip to knock the damnable beast off his feet and into a weakened part of the building.

Dodge all attacks. I can't let him hit.

This looks better for you, Eerin. This time, when he tries to cut you down with another blunt swing with the halberd, you nimbly hop out of the way. But dodging and work with the rocket launcher has slowed you down and he is able to follow that up, the axe-head skittering across your natural chestplate for 5 damage and a penalty of -3 at 71 damage.

When you try to Trip him, things go badly; you roll a 4, reduced to 1 by your penalties. Trying to use his momentum against him, you end up being forced back by the behemoth and falling under attack once more. He shunts the shaft of the halberd forwards into your forehead, cracking into you for another 8 damage and your first Death Check. You pass.

He steps forward and you try to Trip him again, slipping your insectoid multi-jointed legs in around his thick, clawed feet. But no success. Bloodied and bruised, you are having trouble keeping up with him let alone fighting back.

You duck under a wild sweep of his halberd and try to Trip again, throwing all of your big buggy weight into his leg. His superior strength sees to it that nothing waylays him. He smacks you with the jolting end of the halberd for 3 damage and another Death Check. Another high pass, but you are starting to feel the cracks in your armor keenly.

But maybe not keenly enough! Defiant and angry, the Elite Geonosian Warrior finally secedes in toppling his vicious foe. Corl has sloppy footwork for fighting one-on-one; you take advantage of that and slip one of your legs in at the right time to Trip him up. He stumbles forward and falls onto a weakened section of the roof, his weight and momentum being just enough to break it. It crumbles beneath the two of you and you fall...

Eerin tries to grab on to something, anything, to keep himself from falling into the building with the Gundark!

You manage to get a hold of something, Eerin.

It's your rocket launcher.

The two of you fall into the room immediately below, landing hard on the floor with debris falling on top of you. You each take ten damage, all ten points of which you cannot afford in the least, Eerin. A Death Check is made at 91 damage...

... okay, not even I saw this coming. You roll a 19; JUST a pass.

Barely conscious and covered in rubble, you find yourself free to move, Eerin. Your foe, on the other hand, has a support beam lying across his chest and is roaring viciously. It will stall him, but from how hard he has been hitting you, it won't last long...

(Feasible to try and kick sand in their eyes, then limp off to hide in or around a nearby building? Wither something empty or a dumpster of some sort. Don't want to go far, just make it seem like I did.)

Kyle appears to relax back into the sand. He pulls his knees up so his feet are flat in the sand. "Ok, fine. So, what's the next step? Where are you taking me?"

Lugging himself and his rocket launcher out of the rubble, Eerin makes for an exit. He stops a moment, remembering something; he goes back and snatches his halberd from the ground, near the yowling Gundark.

"[This is mine]," Eerin comments, snatching it up and throwing it across his back. He keeps his rocket launcher at the ready as he staggers out of the building and into the street or alley on the other side of the door.

Ahaz laughs darkly.

"As I said, luck is only with you for so long. Today, yours has run out..."

He presses the wide nozzle of his heavy pistol against your throat, Kyle, intending to send a beam burning up through your brain. Smiling, he starts the pull the trigger...

BLAM.

...

The Weequay staggers, taking a few steps back. Dropping his weapon, he presses a hand against his chest where a dark patch is forming and smouldering...

BLAM.

Going lax as a laser bites into his skull, the Weequay is knocked off his feet by the force of the blast and is taken down.

"What the...?" Ahaz starts.

Now is your chance!

-

Eerin, you collect your gear and get moving! Out the door and onto the street, the very same that Kyle is currently on. You emerge just as the Weequay is snuffed. He still has that bounty hunter Ahaz on top of him, but he is out of rocket's range.

That, and that support didn't hold the Gundark down quite so long as you had hoped. Corl comes tearing straight through a wall, a roar billowing up from his innards as he makes straight for you...

"Hey, ugly!"

A pair of blue blaster bolts strike Corl in the back. He yelps, caught completely by surprise as he takes 9 damage from the two hard-hitting shots. He completely forgets about the battered old bug he set out to shred, turning his roars of fury on the man standing up on the broken rooftop where you had been fighting.

"That's right, I'm talking to you," the man says, a pair of revolver-esque heavy blaster pistols leveled at the Gundark. His dark hair combed to one side, his well-defined jaw is tensed, and his brow furrowed into a glare even the Archduke of Geonosis would cower from, this man greatly resembles Adrian Pasdar and is wearing the blast vest of a stormtrooper uniform over a short-sleeved black shirt and brown cargo pants, tucked into large combat boots.

"Back away from the bug."

Corl snarls, prepared to meet the challenge...
