Johns: No, he doesn't. And we're going to learn more about Ultraman and his powers, and his limitations. We've seen a little bit of it, like obviously sunlight takes his powers away, and Kryptonite enhances them. So we're going to be playing with that some more.
But Ultraman is definitely the leader of the Syndicate, and he's a character that Luthor is going to go up against at some point, and we'll see that fight — a Superman who wouldn't hold back against a Lex Luthor who's fighting for everything.

Heh. Yeah, sort of.
He's always been a Superman clone, with comparable but slightly different powers. Never really heads and shoulders above him.
So even though it's wrong to just assume this new Ultraman = Superman, it's not an unreasonable assumption, given their history..

Superman gets his power from sunlight, he's constantly getting on earth, but what happens when he is thrown into the sun? it's super absorption and he gets more powerful.
Similarly IMO , when ultraman takes sniff of Green K, he probably gets charged to full power right away.
He is different that Superman in that he doesn't hold back.
But the Green K source and Sunlight Source do not seem to operate exactly the same way. Superman has a standard, fairly static level of solar absorption he attains just being on Earth. He can amp, of course. But normally, his solar absorption level is relatively static.
UM is not constantly absorbing Green K. He has to take it in doses. And just after a dose, he's more powerful than Superman at normal levels. But presumably, that power wears off more quickly too (the nosebleed, perhaps).
