Gears of War 2!!!

I'm not a fan of the Halo series but it's silliness never bothered me. In fact Halo's whimsy is probably apart of what makes the game so appealing to some people. It's a decently designed game with smooth controls and inoffensive game play. Granted, you are still blowing people to hell but the enemies personalities strikes a balance between lightheartedness and violent action.

I'm not sure why everyone is arguing about which weapons are more badass and realistic when it comes to Halo and Gears of War. I don't think Halo was ever going for realism nor was Gears. Halo is a fast paces shooter and it would seem to me, that the weapons were designed with this in mind. The Halo weapons fit it's gameplay, they assist you in mastering the run and gun strategy. You can run through a Halo level, rarely breaking pace. Emptying clips, swapping weapons and along with the shiny colors, you are almost hypnotized as you fall into "the zone".

The Gears Weapons seem to have been designed around a gritty visceral approach. Every weapon in Gears makes you feel like a certified badass as you dispatch your enemies. These weapons, like Halo also seem to have been designed around it's specific cover and shoot strategy of game play. There really is only one or two weapons in the Gears Arsenal that would transfer well to a run and gun game. The weapons in Gears seem more realistic but the weapons in Halo are more futuristic, fitting their respective atmosphere.

As for why Halo is so goddamned popular...,well, i can't comment on that. I have no idea. So, i can't argue why Halo might be a better game than Halo. Halo feels like EVERY other FPS that i have ever played, only, i've played better. I thought Halo 3 had a lot of epic and memorable moments but right as i was about to like the game it ended. Right as the game was about to start doing something different, it ended. When you people argue that Halo 3 is better than Gears because of it's multiplayer, make sure that you specify that you're arguing the multiplayer aspects because it is very important to know that Gears primary focus is the single player campaign.

Halo is to gamers what Harry Potter was to the readers.

You've always wanted to say you read, but you've just never been smart or attentive enough. That was until they brought along a series that wasn't too difficult, wasn't too clever, wasn't too literary, to make you feel like you were a "reader".

Halo is exactly the same. It's the kind of game that makes casual gamers feel like they are playing well. Those not good enough to play Bioshock, System Shock 2, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark etc, they play Halo, with all its bright colours and easy learning curve.

In music there's Coldplay, in books there's Harry Potter and in gaming there's Halo; flattering the masses.

But really AC, which weapons do you find childish?

Pick one, really.

All of them either look childish, sound childish or both.

At BEST, the assault rifle and...brute shot (Is it? I forget the name) don't look bad, but they might as well be peashooters.

-AC

How is this

Any more ridiculos than this?

The same as I said about the assault rifle etc, though.

If they don't look and sound childish, they feel and sound ineffectual.

Halo's weapons fail on every level, in my opinion.

You refer to Halo as not too difficult or too clever... yet you are defending Gears of War 2? The game in which you can take down a boomer just by standing in one spot and firing the lancer? And this is on the hardest mode they allow you to start the game on.

Spoiler:
You are defending a game who's story ends essintially the same way as it's predecessor. Instead of dropping the lightmass bomb, and killing the locust... they flood them and kill them... yet they survive... both times...
Yes, that is very clever.

I don't see what's wrong with defending Gears 2. That game is awesome.
If you people dislike Gears so much, why do you even bother coming in this thread anyway?

This is the "Gears of War 2!!!" thread, not the "Gears of War 2 is crap" thread. GET OUT YOU HATERS!!! 😠

Spoiler:
and yet they don't tell us the Locust survive this time, only the Queen seemingly survived, and she didn't even give us a hint at a new game, it actually seemed like she ended it. It seemed more of a close to the series then an open for another. Yet of course there will be a new one. The Locust actually seemed like they were dead after this one. So they did end it similar, but very differently too. Her speach sounded more like an ending then more apocalyptic doom as her end one in Gears 1 did

It's also not the "Only say nice things about Gears 2" thread. It is general discussion about Gears 2. Good or bad.

But really, I love it, and have very little in general that is bad to say about it 🙂

I enjoyed Gears 1 and 2, but Halo 3 is a beter game.

Who the heck slipped you a mikey when you weren't looking?

So for you there can be no middle ground. Either you LOVE Gears 2 with all you heart and play nothing BUT Gears 2 or you HATE it with an absolute passion and would rather eat spit.

If we're talkin story mode, then Gears 2 wins. True Johnson dieing in Halo 3 was a bit sad for the fans but Dom in Gears 2 went and shot his wife and that seems to be a bit more dramatic. Seriously, what sounds more dramatic: fallen soldier, or husband shootin wife?

Fallen soldier. 🙂 The wife was batshit crazyat that point.

Then again I've never had a wife. So, *shrug*

Honestly, Johnson dieing didn't do much for me 😬 and I have been a fan since it first came out. Dom's wife part was great, I loved that scene, I have never seen something like that in a video game. It felt a lot more emotional in Gears 2 with his wife. I felt Dom's acting went nicely with it and the music playing at the time felt right.

There's really no difference between the human/human weapons now are there? Your referring to the Covenant weapons right?

Dom's wife had been more relevant to the story had she been introduced earlier in the series. To introduce and kill the character within three hours apart really doesn't build a strong emotional attachment or bond with the character. Hell, no one gives a damn about someone they just met.

And what was that really? The main plot? Sub plot? Theres no direction in Gears's story and that's why I'm not a fan. Its practically just like another sequel, "The Lost World: Jurassic Park" No solid plot, just a lot of running and screaming.....

I agree they should have introduced her earlier on, but the way they executed it still was really well done imo, I have rewatched that scene many times, it still gets to me, perhaps its just me? I could just feel the attachment between Dom and Maria, especially when it was happening, you could tell how hurt he was, his confusion, etc. I dunno, either way, I really liked it. I felt it was better done then Johnsons's who got shot with some beam by 343...ooooh...dramatic...
