That's assuming the lie is as straightforward as something he has said to you.
It's difficult moving through the city; the streets are crowded. Large screens have been put up to show live coverage of evebts; people are keen to see the Aboot/Archimandrite-in-waiting doing his thing. His vote is a foregone conclusion; meanwhile the screens aree showing news reports of various issues about the arriving Senators and the issues they will be discussing.
The images and accompanying sounds play loudly over the city, watcheds by many.
"More and more ships continue to arrive tt the starport, causing many delays. Senatorial transports of all sorts come together for the largest Senatorail meeting outside of Coruscant in decades. But it is not just Senators arrving- activists, lobbyists and businessmen from across the galaxy have come to make their case to the Senators, just as Synod spokesperson and Archimandrite-in-waiting Sienar intends to.
These pictures show the arrival of billioniare Deel Twain, alongside a consortium of other interested businessmen..."
"Ha." Andro responds dryly. "I wish I knew. He was on Spiridos, Gallagher and I bumped into him, thinking he was a customer/patient of the spa. When I was earching Varm's quarters, I found Deel's body in a drawer. Yes, I said his body. Varm caught me peeking, and a fight broke out that eventually included Gallagher's bodyguard and Kathya. Mirani and the Abbot appear, so we stop the fight; somehow we were trying to look innocent in the Abbot's presence, ironic that one." Andro shakes his head a little. "Anyhow, while I'm trying to explain why I apparently was attacking members of Seinar's retinue, up walks 'ol Deel Twain, alive. Yep, just as I was shouting like a madman that I discovered his body. In another situation, it would have been funny."
Andro continues, in more of an emotional unloading, not a mad rant, "And people wonder why I'm moody these days. Gallagher and I uncover a drug ring, discover the apparent murder and ressurection of a well-known businessman, the actual murder of thousands, and I was personally attacked by Varm, Kathya, and Seinar himself. And here I am, having to dance around with politics while everyone involved knows Seinar is doing his best to subvert Gallagher." Andro stares off into the distance, "We better find Deel before Seinar gets to him. I doubt his arrival here is coincidence. And if it is, I still want to get an explanation for that trick on Spiridos."
Jelena places a comforting hand on Andro's shoulder.
"I believe that the death of Mirani may not have cut off all avenues through which we can unravel this mystery," Jelena says. "If he was involved with Sienar's scheme on Spiridos, then it is possible he is still involved. We must find out what he knows, before he ends up meeting a fate similar to the Doctor's."
Mandragos was chosen as the location because the Synod has taken such a leading role in the fight against poverty recently, as its political strength has grown.
More specifically, a few years ago the Abbot Sienar averted a massive famine on the world Zeskus V (caused by a form of space locust). If it was not for his intervention the planet may have became untenable for life forms; a catostrophe. But although the Republic has all sorts of altruisitic programmes involved in helping and resettling people in danger, Zeskus V was kinda out of the public view and got no attention. Without the Abbot, no-onen would have done anything to stop it.
The publicity the Synod got for this was embrassing for the Senate and specifically for the Poverty Commission that was meant to stop that sort of thing. And what's the biggest poverty-related problem now? A coming famine crisis- although this time caused by a general structural breakdown, mostly of transport, rather than a specific thing like at Zeskus. However, the point is the Senate is keen to rebuild its reputation there. Holding this meeting on Mandragos is a sign that they are backing the Synod's efforts, rather than being seen to be outdone by them. All friends together, see?
So it seems this is going to be a very important meeting, for those interested in... poverty and food distribution, which you guess is very important but not very glamourous. Major policy in that area will be decided here.
Gallagher has a strong feeling that the man he saw taking his own life in his vision is indeed Mirani, but he has no proof to support this theory. Sienar's comment only encourages it in a vague sense, though Gallagher saw a woman command the man to kill himself. He is unsure but feels it is connected to Mirani.
Gallagher will return to the Basilica and resume his meditations, as he had earlier done, thinking back upon his life...
The planet Torus
The body in the bathroom stares lifelessly up into yuor eyes, Gallagher.
"I've seen people silenced to avoid then talking tio Jedi before," says Korth. "I've never known anyone so keen to silence themselves, though." He sighs. "No-one will mourn another dead Rodian, I am afraid. All too many deaths on this planet."
This world is not Hutt controlled, Gallagher, but it is certainly influenced; the syndicates are strong here and power struggles are done the old-fashioned way.
"The good news is that this makes it very likely we are looking in the right area. The bad news is, I am not sure why anyone would telegraph that to us so strongly. They could have hidden the body and then all we would have were theories we hoped were true. Now we can be near certain. Unfortunately, with the only known associate of your sister's former lover now... indisposed before us, we have more questions than answers. And with her bodyguard dead we have no-one who can tell us how she came to have a friend from a planet like this.
"I don't think Zolos was killed just because he was her bodyguard. I think our kidnapper needed to silence him as a witness to other events also. Weeks in and still no random note; this is not simple criminal enterpirse. This is personal."
Sorry for the delay. College finals.
"So someone is trying to cover their tracks, Master?" Gallagher says. "Perhaps to keep their identity... or identities... concealed?"
What does Gallagher sense about the scene? Did the Rodian allegedly commit suicide? Who was he to my sister's lover? And this is before Gallagher committed his murder or after?
Korth shakes his head. "Someone covering their tracks would have hidden the body and left us with nothing. This is more vicious- a warning, perhaps. For us to back off. We are dealing with very dangerous people here."
He was a business associate, apparently. Though as Korth says, that her lover had such associates on this world is surprising.
All of this is, of course, before. By the time you struck the killer down you already knew who was behind it, and why their methods were so brutal.
Chances are if you read a post and think 'How the hell did we get to Torus/Thespia?' or 'Who the hell is Korth?', the post is meant for me. 😛
Gallagher is indeed surprised that someone of such a reputable family, such as his own, would have a lover of such disreputable standings. Especially considering Gallagher's status as a Jedi and his father's Senatorial position.
"Will we need assistance in bringing them in, do you think?" Gallagher asks.
