The Avengers (2011)

Absolutely loved The Avengers....9.8/10, IMO.

Thoughts:

I'm not understanding all the Thor powered down comments.

First off, I felt like he was holding back or fighting wounded the entire movie.

Let's recap:

Notable feats in the Forest scene:

1. Takes on a 400% powered up Iron Man
2. Tanks a uni-beam shot from his chest with no damage
3. Tanks being face planted up a mountaun with no damage
5. Tanks a repulsor shot to the face from 6 inches away with no damage
6. Head butts IM 20 feet
7. Crushes IM's wrist guards with ease
8. Gets the last shot in by batting IM away like a fly
9. Tanks a redirected vibranium shot from Mjolnir with NO Damage.

Notable Feats in the Shield Hellcarrier:

1. Arguably stalemates Hulk with no Mjolnir/exotic powers, for the most part.
a. Not the most advantageous battle setting for him against Hulk as it's a small space where Hulk can use his size to great advantage.
2. Obviously holding back for 2 reasons:
a. Didn't want to hurt Banner
b. Couldnt bring down the ship
3. Could've easily smashed through the cage made for Hulk, but would've brought down the ship, or released the cage 30,000 feet.
4. Smashes through the cage falling from 30,000 feet while being tossed like a rag doll
5. I saw some comments about Thor putting covering his face, or moving away from the F-22 machine gun fire. Personally, I must of missed that cuz I don't remember it, but so what? When a mosquito flies around your face don't you do the same? It's a nuisance, at best.

Notable Feats/points in the Final Battle:

1. IMO, he's obviously holding back against Loki as he's trying to save him, and still has hope for his "lost cause" little brother. Mind you, Loki is powered up from the previous Movie as he now has the cosmic staff.
2. Once he realizes he's beyond saving and gets stabbed, manhandles Loki pretty easily.
3. Fights the rest of the battle wounded.
4. Is tasked with the hardest feat of closing portal with own powers.
5. Takes down two serpents with lightning strikes.
6. Takes down an entire legion or horde with multiple lighnting strikes while trying to close the portal.
7. Completely owns at least a hundred of the Chitauri (granted they're fodder, but he easily takes them down)
8. Launches a car about 40 yards and kills a good 5-10 Chitauri.
9. Thor can't unleash a godblast or too crazy of a lightning strike because he'll destroy the city on his own. He has to hold back a little, as all the powerhouses do when fighting in populated areas.
10. Lastly, Whedon and Penn had to give the other characters some sort of purpose, and to that end, maybe scaled Thor back a little, but nothing I would complain about with any serious conviction.

Edit: I'm sure I missed something so feel free to add to my comments.

Excellent post.

That scene where he jump to avoid the jet fighter's bullets was odd considering his durability. I came to the conclusion that he knew the plane could possibly get Hulk off the Helicarrier and he didn't want to spoil the distraction.

Thanks.

I didn't actually notice him doing that, so I can't really comment on it.

either that or he didn't want to get his handsome face scared 😛

Loki's defeat!

I've seen the move four times now (I've got my full set of collectable Avengers cups!), and the only compliant I have is that they never said Avengers Assemble... which is minor.

Tony dropped the EMH line, though.

how strong would you guys say thor/hulk is in this movie?

Class 25/50 100 even?

and where do IM/Cap stand in terms of strength. Just curious...

Marvel Phase 2 Speculations!?!

Just my silly speculations.

Hulk - Class 80
Thor - Class 70
IM - Class 50
Cap - Class 5

Maybe i'm way off base.

wow so cap is pretty strong compared to his comic counterpart but the reverse seems true for the other charecters
..
IM in IM,IM2 always gave a class 10 vibe in my opinion.

Hulk in TIH was no more than 20-30 tons... i remember him struggling with that hummer.
ang lees hulk was class 100 but was at 15ft.

for this movie they should of shown thor/IM rescuing /lifting a plane or something to one up SM's feats of strength

too true.. he HAS to hold back, lest he kills or maims everybody, which kinda defeats the purpose..

Spoiler:
What do you guys think the chances are that Agent Coulson is still alive? Fury is the only one who saw the "dead body," and Fury was established a schemer who would lie to push his agenda. Think it's possible the med team could have revived him after the fact? I want Phil to be alive. 🙁

Spoiler:
My boss talked about that too, he was confident 75%, that Agent Colemen will be back in Avengers 2 and this will confirm that Fury is a person not to be trusted (when the team finds out).

Realistically, he should be dead by that wound and reaction he give.

Spoiler involving the thingy that appears mid-credits.

Spoiler:
http://movies.cosmicbooknews.com/content/avengers-joss-whedon-loves-thanos-adam-warlock-and-jim-starlin-spoilers

Joss Whedon talks about how he's a fan of Thanos, Warlock, and Starlin:

"He for me is the most powerful and fascinating Marvel villain. He’s the great grand daddy of the badasses and he’s in love with death and I just think that’s so cute. For me, the greatest Avengers was THE AVENGERS annual that Jim Starlin did followed by THE THING 2 in 1 that contained the death of Adam Warlock. Those were some of the most important texts and I think underrated milestones in Marvel history and Thanos is all over that, so somebody had to be in control and had to be behind Loki’s work and I was like “It’s got to be Thanos.” And they said “Okay” and I’m like “Oh my God!”,"

- Joss Whedon

So if Thanos is going to appear in the next Avenger movies or GOTG movie he's going to receive a lot of love from the director.

Me too, but it gives the story greater depth if they leave it as it is.

There are rumors that Coulson could possibly

Spoiler:
come back as the MCU version of the Vision
