Favorite/Best Director thread.

i think u maye have been correct about QT being influencial.. how many movie trailers start with this... "The 4th film by So and So.. only one comes to mind adn thats QT for kill bill.. i mean sure they list directors and producers but QT uses his name as a selling point = to the movie.. id honestly say id see any movie he made without seeing a trailer or even knowing the name.. more then i could say for most directors..

I think I said this before, but Tarrentino is influencED, not influential.

Nobody does movies like him, because nobody would want to be labeled a hack of a hack, and I can't blame them. Upping the body count, the foul dialogue, and the overbearign sexual innuendos in a movie doesn't make him a great director.

Neither does this dialogue everyone clamors over. Sorry, just my view.

*sigh*

I'm not going to get into another QT debate here.

Okay, there is one director/filmaker that I believe deserves to be herein this thread, and that is Woody Allen. Best films are Bullets over Broadway, Manhattan and of course a very good film Hannah and Her Sisters (which It wasn't my favorite but found it to be quite interesting to watch) Check out his movies they are quite entertaining.

You guys are missing the entire point of the thread. We're supposed to be naming directors that have influenced other directors/producers, to the point where their influences are obvious in the movies they make.

While it's easier to spot in music, I'd like to see some names of actual influential directors name here, who have some impact on others.

Hitchcock! I think I've replied to this already thou LOL
Before him, every movie looked like a bloody theater play!

1.Steven Spielburg
2.George Lucas
3.Alfred Hitchcock
4.Quentin Tarentino
5.Mel Gibson
6.Ridley Scott
7.Ang Lee
8.Akira Kurosawa

Can you tell me why you think Spielberg, QT, Gibson and Scott are influential? Unless you meant them has best 😛 In that case ignore my post.

Akira Kurosawa movies influenced many of the great Spaghetti Westerns of the 60s and 70s. From Corbucci to Leone the art of Akira is reflected in those great Italian western movies. But of course some ppl will see that as "rip-offs" and quick to point fingers at any director that reinvents the style. I'll just chuckle at their comments.

Yeah. I meant Best and most influentiial, so there is a mix of best and most influentiial

Being a film maker myself (yup finally), personally theres not one director that influences me.

I like the different styles some directors have... whether it's the Coen brothers insane, surreal, undescribable tones in their films like Barton Fink or Fargo, or the beautiful visual style of Michael Bay.

I think the best examples so far have been Kurosawa, Lange, and Hitchcock. I mean some of the directors others have been mentioning were influeced by these people. For one, QT is majorly influenced by Kurosawa. He even admits that Kill Bill was a nod to him.
