Favorite/Best Director thread.

That is only 1 bad movie out of like 12 that he'd made. That is a far smaller ratio then any other director that made that many films.

i like tim burton and stanley kubrick because they are both directors who do things differently 😄 i mean they don't follow the norm for their time 😄

I think burton tries a little to hard sometimes, and he loses the simple neccessities in films by over emphasizing wierdness in his flicks.

Kubrick never had this problem.

I agree with that hehe. I think sometimes spielberg almost does that sometimes. Like minority report....

Steven Speilberg, Roman Polanski, James cameron and Ridly Scott for my choice. George lucas made a terrible mistake in producing "Howard the Duck"

okay i think that james cameron really did a fab job on titanic 😄

I voted 'other'. I would have liked to have seen David Lynch on the list, Richard Donner, and definitely Terry Gilliam.

I like Howard the Duck! Jeffrey Jones owns in that movie when he's "possesed" by one of the Dark Overlords of the Universe.........

classic...........

I cant believe quentin tarrentino is not listed. Tarrentino is the best living director. No director can smash together as much entertainment, creativity, Style, profession, and thought provoking dialogue, as tarrentino does. He can create any genre and include his own style. This is a rarity in the movie world that only a few directors have ever achieved. Oh yeah and he's also ANTI hollywood🙂

I think M.Night shymalan will become noted as the next hitchcock. I believe he will become the king as suspense movies in the future. This is because of his aparent talent, and his goal to be able to make a movie for all audiences. He does this and still produces great movies.

Spielberg i believe to be one of the greatest directors of all time, however he lacks innovation and creativity. He is a creative mind but he doesnt ever produce a new style or original style of filmaking ever aside of JURASSIC PARK . Daaren aronofsky has the potential of beccoming the next best director but this is just favortism remark. With only two movies under his belt he has a long way to go.

Now to the Two greatest of all time hitchcock and Kubrick. I believe hitchcock to at one time been the greatest. There are however many better directors around now. I dont want to discredit his brillaince i think this is just a case of the apprentice surpasing the teacher. Kubrick is the most talented director of all time. With vision and innovation he takes the throne. All his movies are supurb. Especially eyes wide shut. this movie was a risk on his part. However to be enjoyed it requires an intellectual mind. "It relies more on phsychological threats than anything else. It is a movie only for a select few. mainly fans of the occult" These are his words. So for any true kubrick fan to exclude eyes wide shut as a work of art is no true lubrick fan. Kubrick is the king. PERIOD

tarrentino a close second 🙂

Come on guys! These are just commercial directors! I'm not saying there's anything wrong with them (because they sure as hell ain't), but you got to explore more!

Your calling Tarrentino, Kubrick and aronofsky commercial directors?

If so then you know very little about movies my friend. Tarrentino is anything but commercial. He gained his popularity through word of mouth in the preverbial underground world. Of course critics love his movies that is just because of his talent. but he is anything but commercial. KUBRICK got most of his respect and popularity years after his embark in movie making. And aronofsky is probably the furthest thing away from commercial. The only name up there i can see as commercialized is speilberg. If you believe there to be any greater director than kubrick or tarrentino, or any of the names on that list, why not show some balls and give us names. You give me the names of any other director not listed or spoken about as being the best. i will give you a crappy movie that fails miserably

I was on about the ones in the poll. Damn man sorry for making your pubes fall out!

peter jackson 😎 hes a patient man thats good in a director ✅

yeah but he's got a long way to go. other than making movies based on an 60 yearold story that had an incredibly mind blowing fan base spanning the entire world.

Looks like Kubrick is number one. Ive only seen his 'A Clockwork Orange' which wasnt too bad. Guess i should check out some of his other movies.

Dziga Vertov or Mathieu Kassovitz anyone?

Agrees with BF and others, Kubrick should definitely have been there 👆

The Number one director of all time.. is hands down.. the master of suspense... Alfred Hitchcock...

But nowadays... mmmmm ... ummmm ... i guess good old Quentin 🙂

What about Peter Jackson and the Wachikowski brothers?

I mean, sure Peter Jackson is fairly new to the 'Hollywood' movie style, and the Wachikowski brothers are a little bit "out there", but they're brilliant, and they were also (co-)writers for their scripts. plus, their movies kick ass

speiberg no doubt with films like saving private Ryan c'mon
