Co-signed with leo on all this...

this is way different. it's a vs match with judges. you don't drop in and say "he wins". you need actual proof and need to be convincing enough to win a judgement. gimme a match where characters decide it over a match where the person who can make the least ludicrous plan in prep can win it. making plans is fun and you get ot be creative and all that--but once the match starts it's all about defending prep, and the characters don't matter. that's crap.
I think the difference in debating quality alone would make this tourney different than the day to day vs Forum. How often do any of us ever get to see people like Blair, leo, Scoobs, and batdude debate their favorite guys against each other WITHOUT a bunch of unrealistic crap involved with the fight? Almost never. It's always one of them against some moron who couldn't debate his way out of a paper bag.
If people are worried about things like shields, I think we should just have the characters start the match "Battle Ready", so any powers that are consistently used in combat are assumed to be in effect at the start of the match. Someone like Invisible Woman or Magneto will begin the match with their Force Field raised since that's the way they always fight, but people like Surfer or Wonder Woman wouldn't because they normally only throw up force fields when they have to. I think for once the tourney should be "Marvel vs DC", not "Marvel vs DC if KMC fanboys were in charge".

The problem is, the prep is practically a necessity for coming up with original ideas. Otherwise, it's just another battlezone type thread. As for the so-called abuse, give me a break. You do the best you can to close the loopholes and you don't let people break the rules. Other than that, you can't really do jack. Prep shenanigans are here to stay in any tournament. There's always someone willing to push the envelope.
All you really need are judges willing to look outside the box abit, but grounded enough to stop blatent violations. ...........And for god's sake [b]do not let TRICK have any part of this

FIXED. because THAT has been uttered many times as well, so careful of throwing those stones . . . 😄
i'm good with whatever. but i like what goob said. and abuse=defending/attacking prep for the whole match, which is exactly what keeps happening and is what i'd like most to avoid for a change.
ps--i'm extending personal invites to both bran and val! c'mon gents, what you waiting for??

Well if i were to do this I wouldn't have it be no prep, or a ton of prep.I'd make it 1 minute relative prep time. As in everyone gets only 1 minute to do something. This would be regardless of Speed, Time Powers, or any other factor that has been used in the past to increase prep time.
1 minute that is it. That would give any individual character time to make minor preparations such as raising a defensive shields, turning invisible.
That would open a few more characters for certain tiers so that they won't get completely trashed, and there isn't too much time to give major time to creating various elaborate battle plans.

hey, why aren't YOU competing?? i'd be okay with that i think. so would you disallow superspeed for the prep-time then? what about computer-speed thoughts and things like telepathically sharing experiences and powers?

As to telepathically sharing experiences I would allow it. As long as it can be done within a minute time frame at normal human movement and thinking speeds.
I figure this way people could present an organized front going into the battle. IE they can get shield's up, have some minor character interactions going on before, and still wouldn't be able to put together Galaxy or Universal shattering plans.
As to why I'm not competing. It's a time/resource type deal. I really can not get scans nor do I have a steady time frame to get on to devote to making long tourney style posts.
