~ Blackest Night - Discussion Thread ~

Meh...nearly burned out on Blackest Night...the 400 tie-ins showing the exact same thing over and over (dearly-departed superhero/villian returns to mock former associate with Freddy Kruger-esque one liners) is now just beating the proverbial dead horse (GET IT?!?!?drylaugh)

The pacing is nowhere NEAR as good as The Sinestro Corp War.

I dont know why you feel that way juz give it some time 😕 i mean you might like where this is going

... It's Issue 6 already. How much time is left?

IT CAN BE SALVAGED

Hardly. I hate the fact that

Spoiler:
everyone is getting a ring. WTF! Now everyone can wield a ring. This is ridiculous, and not to mention, the power levels are way down
I am not even doing to say how stupid and lame some tie ins are. I liked WW because a lot of people died and it was different then other tie ins. Superman and Batman were good because they were the first ones. The other just sucked bad and they repeated what happen with the first two tie ins.

be that as it may this event is the very thing weve all been getting at death in comics. but i guess for the writters sake or bein very long and drawn out its growing on us and maybe we just want to see how it all goes down who will stay dead who will be resurected. to be honest i like Blackest Night/Green Latern and Blackest Night/Green Lantern Corps more than any of the other tie ins. Yet its also not fair to dissmiss whats happining and compare to great works of art such as Sinestro Corp. DC is aloud to swing and miss every once and a while.

Personally I'm still loving Blackest Night.

Suicide Squad was teh sex and Didio surprised me with a very enjoyable western tales.
WW#2 was also a great read.

Personally, I'm loving your Blackest Night sig ✅

Raoul's the best at what he does.

and what he does is ever so pretty.

this shit can't end soon enough, imo.

😂

But yeah.

i actually jumped ship a few issues back from the titans issue when Terra showed up.....i was like...i know beast boy isnt gonna go fawning over her and telling her that whatever it is she can "FIGHT IT!!!!!" and come back to him....well, i'll be damned, BB didnt even let me finish my internal monologue, b4 he reverted to type...then i was like OK...OK , now i know that grayson and Drake knowing how horribly thier parents died will know better than ANYONE esle not to lose thier shit and believe they can reason with the corpses and hope they can "FIGHT IT!!!!"........sunuvabitch!!! not them too?...thats it i give up..just the main GL/GLC titles from here on in,the war of light is infinitely more appealing to me than random DC ppl getting to show thier emotions...BTW have they forgotten that gordon had a wife that was killed by the joker how awesome would that have been to bring her back since they have been pulling obscure names out of thier ass anyway

Not really nowadays tho. They f#%k up Final Crisis (tho thought it was the shit). Countdown had it's moments but some confusing sh#t that event was. They shouldn't be missing this event up and some how Didio managed that.

🙄

The Sinestro Corps and Annihilation focused on obscure characters and developed them with few tie-ins. Blackest Night so far has been DC's iconic heroes going "OHNOZ, please not you too! FIGHT IT, FIGHT IT! I know you can do it; I know you're still in there. FIGHT IT!" Who the bloody #%#* cares.

This shit can only end well if the Nekron does more than just standing around, Anti-Monitor is freed from the BL and start shit with Nekron, and we get more panels of the Red Lanterns and the resurrection of Vice as a Red Lantern. Killing him was a horrible idea. You just don't do that with interesting new characters, especially villains.

The event had so much potential with all the new interesting Lanterns. But then it turns into another big DC event flop. Seriously, I don't give a f##k about Wonder Woman, Flash, Superman, or any of the major names. They should all be given supporting roles, not tie-ins to the event. This event would've so much more epic had they done a given minis for the other Lanterns. It would start out with everything leading up to Blackest Night. Then we get 3 mini tie-ins focusing on the other Lanterns during Blackest Night:

- Dex Star: Rage Of A Red Lantern - Four issues of Dex Star and his remaining fellow Red Lanterns involvement in BL, slaughtering away at the Black Lanterns across space to reach Atrocitus for the end battle against Nekron.

- Black Hand: Herald of Nekron. Four issues of Black Hand actually doing something other than standing around. Possibly fighting Parallax, Predator, and Ion, trying to consume the other 3 concepts. But finding that Sinestro's corps doing the same.

- Akrillo: Soldier of Sinestro Corps - Four issues of Akrillo implementing Sinstro's plan of the Yellow Corp's seeking out and containing the Ion and the Predator to harness there powers and destroy the Black Lantern battery and free Anti-Monitor. It'd also involve Kilowog and a handful of Lantern learning out this plan and desperately trying to stop them from unleashing Anti-Monitor into the war.

Sorry, that is supposed to be 'lick' Batman's skull...but I'm sure he likes it too...

I still like Blackest Night as a whole, and I don't feel that DC is trying to make it as if I need to get every single tie-in issue. I bought the tie-ins to issues I actually read as well as corresping minis. I do think the first wave of minis BN: Superman and BN: Batman were plenty, though. Blackest Night should be about Hal (and to a lesser extent Barry) figuring out WTF is going on and putting an end to it. I'm actually extremely happy Batman only had a breif "cameo" and I sincerely hope that's all I see of him for the rest of the event. I didn't see the new Lantern angle coming, either, though I have mixed feelings on it, especially so late in the series; seems like a gimmick to generate more interest instead of flowing with the story, but who knows.

I'm looking forward the implications of GL#50 and beyond though. Apparently

Spoiler:
Hal releases Parallax (or a portion of him) from his power battery and willingly allows it to bond to him again in an attempt to fight Black Lantern Spectre.

It is a gimmick when new Lanterns happened to be well known DC characters. Tho I do like Scarecrow as part of the Fear Corps. Other than that, I just hope the other lanterns get more face time when they show up. The killing blows should belong to guys like Akrillo, Dex Star, Bleez, that blue Vishnu elephant thing, and other Lanterns - not Didio's gimmick characters.

I think your ideas are really good and I'd love to see those tie-ins, but to be honest, I actually have no complaints with Blackest Night at all. The main event is about as self contained as company wide events get these days with the option of tie ins, the writing is great, the art is incredible and the story is quite literally out of this world.

Still my favourite so far has to be issue #1, with the deaths of the Hawks. That may have been the first time a comic book actually made me jump, when Hawkgirl's chest exploded...

So what do u do when an event is very succesful in sales and ratings? U milk the hell out of it!

This morning on DCU Blog The Source, DC Entertainment "kicked off 2010 with some major news." The follow-up to Blackest Night, as some deduced, is simply called Brightest Day.

Starting in April (just after the conclusion of Blackest Night in March) with an issue #0, the series will be 26 issues long and ship biweekly. Writers Geoff Johns and Peter Tomasi, who currently write the two Green Lantern series, will be writing the new book. Fernando Pasarin will do the art for issue #0, but no regular artist was announced on the main series as yet; it will however have multiple art teams to facilitate the every-other-week schedule. It was heavily implied that Johns and Tomasi will also continue writing Green Lantern and Green Lantern Corps, respectively, and that both books will tie-in to the series.

Update 11am EST: Other titles will launch under the "Brightest Day" Banner, the first of which is The Flash, the already-announced series starring Barry Allen and from the creative team of Geoff Johns and Francis Manapul. A full Cover for The Flash #1 is in the viewer to the right. More to come shortly!
