STAR WARS: RETROSPECTION- Liberator

And so Wentar begins to realize the paranoia that comes with being a bodyguard. You much prefer the directness of bringing down criminal enterprises, at this point! And so much for a relaxing assignment.

Senator Farl remains hospitalized for a few days, as medical droids treat his burns and monitor his condition. He remains quiet during these few days, saying little and doing nothing but reading the transcripts to the Senate meeting that he was forced to miss by nearly being blown up.

"The Chancellor has proposed an organization for handling interplanetary miscreants," Farl tells you. He has not spoken with you other than short sentences since the attempt on his life.

Wentar may be having a word to the Order about an investigation now that a real threat has showed itself.

"Is that so?" Wentar says. "That will certainly make things easier for the Jedi. I imagine it would be a fairly expensive proposition though."

"The Bureau of Immigration and Undesirables," Farl says, quoting the paper. "Chancellor Palpatine proposed a galaxy-wide tracking system that locks on to transponder codes of suspect vessels."

He makes a sound of contempt as he shuffles through the papers.

"You disagree with it?" Wentar asks.

"Invasion of privacy!" Farl groans. "Think about it. Such a system could be used to keep track of anyone and everyone. It would be impossible to travel without someone knowing where you are. Especially if the system proved to be insecure. Imagine if the assassins trying to go after me could follow me anywhere, Wentar. How much harder would that make your mandate?"

"I'm sure the Chancellor would not release an insecure system. Such a flaw would surely damage his political career," Wentar reasons, understanding where Farl is coming from. "If the Republic's top people were working on it then the system is not about to have such a serious problem. I'm fairly sure putting everyone at risk is not his plan... Although I do agree, tracking everyone doesn't sit too well with me."

"The other part that I disagree with," Farl says, continuing on with his rant, "is that the Chancellor suggested making stronger ties with LANZAR to employ their Hunters as the hunting force for the Bureau. Bah! A ridiculous notion. That is a situation they would almost immediately lose control of!"

Does Wentar know anything about Lanzar and the Osokans?

Four successes on a Savoir-Faire check. Wentar knows a quite a bit.

Lanzar is a vicious jungle world, home of the brutish porcine Osokan race. Their people are experienced and lethal hunters due to their impressive physical strength, regenerative capabilities, and advanced sense of smell. Evolution has required them to develop as such due to the harsh environment that Lanzar provides- it is very much kill or be killed. The dreaded Lanzar Raptor is something that even Wentar would never want to face, and that is just one of the thousands of fearsome creatures haunting those jungles.

Two hundred years ago, the Osokans decided that the game that Lanzar provided was not enough, and began waging war against other worlds in pursuit of the Hunt. They particularly favored worlds with reptilian races- Arnia and Trandosha, for example, being one of several that they attacked.

The Senate cried out for the Jedi Order to bring an end to the fighting, and a force of two hundred Jedi laid siege to Lanzar and the Osokans. The Jedi eventually won after a long and drawn out conflict. The Guilds were banned, and neurowhips- the paralyzing energy weapon of the Osokans- were restricted.

Rather nasty, all of it. You could see why they would make excellent soldiers for the Bureau, if the Chancellor got it through the Senate.

"You have to be kidding... It took two hundred Jedi to put and end that incident and now the Chancellor wants to practically bring them back?" Wentar exclaims, shaking his head in disbelief. "I'll agree with you there, they wont care about who's dangerous and who isn't. It'll come down to what ever is the better hunt, regardless of criminal status."

"Precisely," Senator Farl sighs. "But... if it means making the Republic more secure. It is not something that I agree with, but now that my life has been threatened, perhaps something like this would be necessary. It would have helped stop Pazol as well."

Farl shakes his head.

"Ah well. Perhaps whoever is doing this to me has some ties to Pazol."

"Ties to a dead man?" Wentar says, in doubt. "I'm not so sure... You said Pazol was after the Triskan liquid, killing you wont give it to anybody."

"True, but Dark Siders are not exactly known for their rationality, if I am not mistaken."

"True, but reaching out all the way to Coruscant just to murder a man an old associate crossed years ago? It just doesn't sound right," Wentar says, still in doubt. "Operating so close to the Jedi Temple would be too stupid a move for a Dark Sider."

"Operating in the Core at all would be stupid, yet Pazol tried it," he says. "Remember, Triskatan is not at all far from Coruscant."

"True..." Wentar says. "But anyway, at this point we don't have enough evidence to assume who is after you. Perhaps if we got someone to investigate the matter we'd find out who it is."

"Inquiries were made into the bodies of the assassins, if I am not mistaken," Farl says. "I am sure that will reveal something, yes?"

"We can only hope it does..."

Still no word on the assassins identities yet?

It was mentioned to Wentar that they were having difficulties discerning their identities. It was not mentioned why. The report will be ready for you when you return with Senator Farl to his suite.

What about the fates of the two other guards?
