Wentar wins initiative. Lacking Swiftness and standing over Senator Farl defensively, he spends his turn activating his lightsaber.
The Senatorial guards do not answer him, and both open fire on the Senator's limp form. They have Gun pools of six, boosted to seven by their rifles, and reduced by Wentar's Defense of Block (transferred to the Senator by Bodyguard) to four. The first rolls three successes on his attack, the second only one. Ten damage to the Senator, as a shot or two slip past Wentar's initial defensive posturing in his dazed state.
-----
PLATFORM FIGHT, START OF TURN 2
Guards x2 (G 7): 0
Wentar (LS 9/ FP 7): 3/3/0 [Reflection/Bodyguard/Block]
Senator Farl: 3/3/10
-----
Initiative roll is a draw, meaning that Wentar takes it with player privilege.
Rather unexpectedly, Wentar deflects a few shots before hurling his blade towards one of the imposters. The lightsaber hums across the platform and, with nine successes, cuts its prey in half.
The remaining guard gets off a shot at the briefly unprotected Senator for four damage, but when Wentar gets his lightsaber back, he ends things with a quick Reflection tap and knocks a bolt back into the imposter. It collides with his face and he flies backwards, landing heavily.
People are running into the area, Wentar. More Senatorial guards, too... but the danger seems to be over.
His Presence boosting his social skills, Wentar rolls five successes on his Persuasion check and the Senatorial guard lowers his gun, dissuaded from blasting Wentar through. Two successes on a Leadership check allows Wentar to take authority of the crime scene, and the guard scampers off to retrieve medical help while the other guards hold back the now swelling crowd, composed of other Senators and their retinue.
Speaking of which, nobody has survived the explosion except for Wentar and Senator Farl. The air shuttle has been blown in half and the inside incinerated.
Wentar is going to make a quick inspection of the impostors bodies, see if they have any data pads or anything on them that could contain any information about who sent them, who they are, etc.
Then he'll go to Farl, medicine roll to make sure he's not about to die anytime soon.
Lastly Wentar will examine the shuttle wreckage. He wont find anything useful but it'll give him a sense of closure and put a few things in perspective.
The imposters have nothing on their persons- except one was holding the detonator.
You suss that Senator Farl has minor burns from the explosion, a welt from a near hit from a blaster, and possibly a concussion. Farl will live, he is just rathered more battered than most Senators care to be. He is coming around now.
You are right about the wreckage- anything useful has been scorched or melted beyond recognition. A general knowledge of the air shuttle's design tells you that the bomb would have been attached to the fuel cells. You can kick yourself for not going down into the hatch briefly, but it would not have done much good if you had been standing next to the bomb rather than pulling the Senator away from it.
His retinue is warm and toasty, unfortunately.
Personally, I can't help but wonder if there were also 2 extra bodies aboard the ship. 2 Senatorial Guards in the Security Suite perhaps.
Wentar will want the identities of the two impostors, he may not be in charge of any investigation but knowing who they were might help with his body guarding duties.
He will also take small comfort in the fact that even if he did discover the bomb there would be little he could do about it, the only ones with explosive knowledge would have been the impostors and they would have been no help.
Since Farl is coming around Wentar will go to him. "Senator, can you hear me?" He asks, kneeling.
Farl stares at you for a moment before letting himself sink back into a groggy oblivion, as the news hits him. The medics arrive shortly after to carry him off to the hospital, with you riding along in the ambulance.
As for the bodies of the Senatorial guards, you think they would have had to have been replaced before the air shuttle arrived. The pilot would have noticed two bodies being dragged into the security suite.
Then Wentar will also report that to the local security. Giving them their departure details so they know where to start.
He's not going to leave Farl's side until they return to the Suite. The odds of another attempt soon are unlikely, it's more for the sake of the Senators piece of mind than anything else.
