STAR WARS: RETROSPECTION- Liberator

Wentar heads down into the basement! It is a dark and dingy place, unlike the bright cleanliness of the Senatorial suites above it. There are pipes everywhere and computerized systems and the like.

The first thing you notice is the ventilation system. The current settings indicate that all ventilation has been closed off, with the exception of those vents leading to Senator Farl's suite. A large yellow cannister has been plugged into the massive air conditioning unit.

Next, the master controls to the security system; panels have been ripped open and things have been rewired.

Finally, there is a short, squat box with several antennae and sensors extending from the top of the device. You are sure that you have found your signal jammer.

Well lets get that jammer disabled... Fix it roll I bet? With a pool of 4 I'm bound to fail, just saber stab it to save time.

Now to get that canister out. Can Wentar tell if it's depleted all it's deadly gas?

A saber stab to the delicate equipment does indeed shut it off, and your comlink whines for a second as the jamming effect is removed.

You cannot tell just by examining it, but you sense no further danger from it.

Wentar will remove the canister and get ventilation back to normal... assuming that doesn't spread the gas from Farl's room into the rest of the building.

Also there should be security camera's here, yes? Have they been shot out at all?

There are security cameras, but given they were in control of all security systems, safe to say they did not catch anything, and if they did, it was erased.

Doesn't look like whoever did this left anything behind?

Wentar will attempt to get the security system back online, if he fails he'll call contact someone on the comlink to come down and give it a try.

Other than what you have found, it does not appear that they did.

Getting control of the security system is easy from here, and you hand control back to all the other terminals in the building. The master terminal will need repair work done, however, as will some of the other systems damaged by whoever was tinkering with them.

Alright then. Seems we're done here. Wentar will leave, taking the canister with him. Might be useful to find out what kind of gas was used.

Indeed.

The suite is aired out and Senator Farl calls for repairs to be made to the doors and windows that were cut through in the attempt to escape. More law enforcement shows up, but there is not much more they can do. They do confiscate the jammer you destroyed and the gas cannister, for examination.

This is not something you have had to deal with before, Wentar. If you are going to investigate this, you are going to have to push your mandate further by talking with the Council.

Speaking with the Council is actually something Wentar's had in mind since the first attack, there just hasn't been much time yet.

But first I want to watch the newest tape. The Senator and Emso are more then welcome to sit in the viewing too, if they want to.

You play the tape. Emso does not want to hear it again, but Senator Farl joins you.

As before, it is a heavily distorted voice, and there is no hologram to go with it.

"I warned you, Senator. You were to step down from your Senatorial commision, or I was going to help you resign. You've seen the threat is real. Last chance to do it yourself, or I'll do it for you."

The timing at which this message was sent still perplexes you.

"What is this nonsense?" Senator Farl says.

Perhaps they knew I'd get the Senator out of there?

Scan on Farl to gauge his reaction, no force point.

"Seems like whoever is orchestrating these attacks wants you to leave your commission," Wentar says. "But this was sent just after the attack, or so Emso told me. Did they plan for you to survive up to this point?"

Two successes on the Scan... is not quite enough to get an exact read on Farl, who is very strong willed and stubborn. He is angered by the tape.

And they would be useless assassins if they did, Wentar.

"My commission?" Farl says. "As if I am going to surrender that position. I would rather the assassins keep at it!"

Wentar, a Senatorial commission is referring to a specific thing, you think. Not just 'being Senator.'

Is the commission his anti-slavery efforts?

Then perhaps the tape was only found after the attack, but left beforehand?

You would have to clarify word-for-word with Emso, there.

And yes, but a Commission in the Senate is a grouping of politicians tasked with getting things done. For example, the Poverty Commission is meant to assist the needy and provide shelther and food to those who cannot normally afford it. Due to simple politics, it does not always get the job done but most Commissions are trying.

You are surprised that Senator Farl did not mention being on a Commission, whichever one it is that he is on.

Another word with Emso will be included in my 'big list of things to do'.

"Which commission is this, Senator?" Wentar asks. "Who else is on it?"

"Do you not know?" Senator Farl says, somewhat condescendingly. "I am the chairman of the Sentient Rights Commission! I was appointed eight years ago and have managed to maintain my spot. There are thousands of other Senators and their advisors in the Commission with me."

Ah, the Sentient Rights Commission. You know of it due to your interests in anti-slavery efforts. Named after the Rights of Sentience clause from the Constitution of the Galactic Republic, which states that all beings in the known universe are equal, the Sentient Rights Commission is the part of the Senate that does its best to enforce the clause. Their greatest struggle is with ending slavery on the edge of Republic space, where pirates still make raids and the like.

Hmmm, that narrows it down to either slavers on the rim or someone wanting the chairman position sending these threats.

"I was unaware of how deep your involvement with the Sentient Rights Commission ran, Senator. I couldn't pick a more suitable candidate for chairman... I'm sure most of the Commission agrees with me, yes?" Wentar says with a smile.

Farl still contends his theory that this is all a Dark Jedi conspiracy.

"For the most part, yes," Senator Farl says. Then he frowns. "You don't mean to imply that someone from the Commission wants me dead, do you? I have been elected to the position every year for nearly a decade with unanimous fervor."

And Wentar still isn't convinced about any Dark Side involvement, it would explain some things, but it's more of a worse case senario assumption...

I'll trust Farl's testament that no one on the Commission wants him dead. So that means Rim Slavers getting worried about the Commission have a significant effect.

"Just a thought, ever since that incident with those impostors I've been a little on edge," Wentar admits. "In any case I can't make anymore sense about this latest tape."

Alright! Assuming Farl has nothing more to add then we move on to the next agenda, speaking with the Council while I have the chance. Not sure if I need to report to the temple for that, if I do Wentar will ask if Emso and Farl wish to accompany him, or they can stay with Nartholen and Walder until he returns. Unless the Senator is required to be there since this is sorta his 'thing'.
