ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT, START OF TURN 11

Apartment Complex

Assassin's Speederbike (P 6): 4

Wentar (LS 9 / FP 3): 3/3/50 [Block]

The Assassin is going to try to shake you off. It is a Strength check to stay on against his Pilot roll.

Well that's all I can do right now. Unless I can use my lightsaber to sever parts of the vehicle to slow it down or something along those lines.

Unfortunately not, though you can attack the speeder beforehand as you get initiative. You slash at part of the speeder, slicing off part of the hull for 8 damage...

However, when the Assassin makes his effort to toss you, you only roll one success for Strenght against his two... and Wentar is falling!

Oh dear... Can I do an Anakin and land on a passing car?

It's a difficult Agility roll to land on the first passing vehicle. Going for it?

Considering the only options I can see available to me are fall and die or do something stupid I'll take the Agi roll. Do I get the bonus from Leaping?

You do! Now it is more to see how much damage you take in your fall rather than if you save yourself or not. Leaping halves all incoming damage, but that doesn't do you any good if you keep falling...

As it is, Wentar catches the first hovercar he sees, using the Force to guide his descent and land solidly on the hood of an older model. He takes 10 damage from the impact... just enough to render him unable to do much else but hang on until the speeder pulls over somewhere to stop.

The driver gets out of his speeder and comes to check on you, helping you off of the hood of the car.

"Are you alright?!" he asks, frantic with shock.

You think you have broken a rib, Wentar.

"I'll live," Wentar says, wincing in pain as he hopelessly looks up into the traffic, trying to spot the assassins speeder.

No hope of catching him now is there?

You have lost all sign of him, unfortunately, and he has moved off by now.

Damn... Wentar will return to Senator Farl then, make sure he's okay.

You get a ride back to the Senatorial suite, flustered and discouraged by how that exchange went. The Assassin has escaped, ensuring that more attacks will come. You can perhaps take some comfort in knowing just what you are up against in terms of the Assassin's skills and talents.

When you get back to the suite, you are greeted by Senator Farl wincing as Emso treats his severe laser burns. The Senatorial guards are not present.

"You've returned!" Farl says. "Your display most certainly saved my life, Master Jedi. I cannot thank you enough! To think I could have been assassinated while eating a reheatable tray dinner."

"Indeed..." Wentar says, glad to see Farl in one piece. "But I'm sorry to say that the assassin managed to get away this time. Where is Walder and Nartholen?"

I assume Wentar is going to need the use of some medical facilities after that little event.

"Walder and Nartholen went down to the basement to sweep for security breaches," Farl says. "They assessed that, if this was anything like last time the security system refused to cooperate, our hacker was down there."

"Lets hope they return soon," Wentar says. "I'm not in any shape to fight if the assassin comes back."

Time passes. Senator Farl's burns were not severe enough for him to require extensive treatment or hospitalization, but Walder and Nartholen have not returned.

Wentar heals 5 damage in this time from rest, and can make a Medicine roll on himself if he desires.

Wentar will make a med roll and head to the basement, he's feeling uneasy about the guard's disappearance.

Wentar gets a success with his roll and so you are at 40 damage.

When you arrive in the basement, you are greeted with an unpleasant scene. Walder and Nartholen are laying on the ground, side by side. Blood has pooled around them as the cauterization of their blast wounds has worn off.

But they are still alive.

Without hesitation Wentar will whip out his comlink and call for immediate medical assistance.

Does Wentar sense anyone else in the room?

You do not.

Medical assistance comes, as do the police to lock down the suite and search the area for any signs of forced entry into the basement and the apartment complex itself. As the two Senatorial Guards are flown away in an emergency speeder, more Senatorial Guards replace them to ensure that nothing happens while investigators examine the dining hall to record laser burns and suss what they can from that. Little can be acertained, of course; they establish that the lasers came from an assault rifle at long range, but you could have told them that. Energy signatures may determine more about the weapon, but you sense that it is a dead end. The bullpup blaster was not a model you had seen before; you put forward the theory that a private contractor made it, and the police gloomily agree but will get back to you with a confirmation.

All this time, Senator Farl is moodily packing his things.

"We are leaving Coruscant," Senator Farl announces to you while throwing articles of clothing at Emso, who quietly folds them and pushes them into traveling cases. "It is obvious that further security is needed for someone of my stature, and it can be supplied for me by my own people, since the Senatorial Guard and Coruscanti police department are apparently incapable of keeping me protected.

"Wentar, I would greatly appreciate if you accompanied me to Triskatan to continue serving as my bodyguard. Contact the Council, tell them you are coming with me. I am confident that THIS time, you will be more than ready to kill my would-be assassin!"

Wentar wants to be alerted the minute Walder and Nartholen are able to speak, he wants to know what went on down there.

"I'm sorry that it had to come to this," Wentar says. "I'd hoped that we would have put an end to these attacks before you returned to Triskatan... I will go speak with the Council now and inform them that you want me to accompany you back to your homeworld."
