STAR WARS: RETROSPECTION- Broken

Hey, somehow I doubt Myraline ever had to lecture Rianna about keeping a hold of her lightsaber 😛

She is certainly surprised by that, though, and doesn't take it immediately. "But won't you need it?"

"I will make use of the lightsaber of Master Jeph," Myraline says, referring to the Jedi Master that formerly served as Ciira's mentor. "Even so, I feel you will need it more than I, Rianna. I am a diplomat, not a warrior. And my life is in far less peril than your own, now."

"Well...thank you, Myraline..." Rianna says, finally taking the offered weapon and putting it away, still surprised.

Myraline just gives a nod.

When the lift has descended, she steps out and walks with you towards the Jedi quarters. She stops before you do, at Ciira's quarters, knocking before stepping in without a word. She waves you on to indicate her goodbye.

This leaves Rianna walking alone to her room. What will she do when she gets there?

She is going to try meditating for a bit, to see if the Force will tell her anything about her current predicament.

Rianna settles down in her room, then, opening her mind to the Force as Master Yoda has instructed. It has been years since her last vision- the one of Ciira on Dall, where the mad scientist Xirdal Roch unleashed his experimental vanishing battle droids- but as she sinks into a meditative trance, she receives one now.

A military outpost is under attack, centered in a rocky plain. Its attackers have come from one side of the outpost, met by the well-armed soldiers defending it. The attackers are led by a man in black, fighting alongside his warriors with a red saber. But he pulls back, letting his retreat be covered by the bodies of his men. Obscured by the fighting, it cannot be seen what he is doing.

All in the fighting are devoured by a sudden flash that rips a gash through the crust of the planet and consumes the armies. The smoke moves over the plain, hiding the military outpost, but when it clears there is a city around that outpost.

You drop from your bird's eye view into the tremendous crevice, down into the darkness. You are treading carefully in a lightless and jagged tunnel. A hand darts out from behind you and grabs your shoulder; it is Rand. You do not pull away, but you recoil when Myraline walks out of the blackness, towards you. You ignite your lightsaber and she ignites hers, yours flashing red, and you drive forwards into her...

You jolt from your trance in a sweat, more tired than you were when you entered it. The sun is down.

Rianna sits still for a moment, while thinking to herself that she's not very fond of visions from the Force, since so far the only ones she had were very unnerving. And that whatever Rand is up to, he most definitely needs to be stopped.

She's the most unnerved by the last part, though; she doesn't get along with Myraline often but not that badly.

Anyway, despite being tired, Rianna is going to put off an attempt at sleep for a little while longer, instead intending to head to the Archives and see what information on Ord Coridari she can find.

There is one thing you know for certain from your vision- if you tell the Council how it ends, you will not be allowed to go to Ord Coridari.

Myraline has connections to the Archives that she keeps open for you, and so you wander into the dimly lit Archives with the glowing shelves of datatapes and search screens. It is late at night, and so nobody is here.

Oh yeah. Rianna's keeping that to herself for sure. She really does not like it.

And good. Being alone is definitely preferable to her. She'll settle down at a terminal and do some research, then.

Ord Coridari is just one of dozens of planets that were colonized as forward bases for the Republic military milennia ago, deriving its name from its status as an Ordinance/Regional Depot. ORDs served as protection against the Sith, and in fact a great battle was fought on Ord Coridari against them. Now ORDs mostly serve as deterrants against pirates in these days of relative peace, with only light barracks remaining.

Ord Coridari has now becoming a notable mining world- a chasm opened in the crust during the wars with the Sith, the Great Coridarian Rift, possesses crystals of incredible value. A recent note to the file says that studies of the chasm have indicated that, at the rate that mining efforts are going, the river of wealth will dry up very soon. Until then, Ord Coridari's only major city, the city of Ine, will remain ridiculously wealthy. Several people have set themselves up as nobles in Ine, barons of the mining companies.

Being so far out, Ord Coridari is left under the supervision of General Lan Hirget, who also serves as Head of State and as Senator. He is a decorated hero of something called the Haleigh Scurry that occured forty years ago.

Rianna wants to see if she can find any info on the battle with the Sith that took place there, as well as the Haleigh Scurry.

The Coridarian Battle took place during the New Sith Wars, the galaxy-wide conflict that ultimately led to the extinction of the Sith. It was a single battle- the military base at Ord Coridari posed a threat to Sith invasion plans, so they deployed an army to take it out, led by the Sith Lord Darth Alkem. The footsoldiers of the Republic fought brilliantly, however, and pushed the Sith to the brink of defeat. The battle ended with the destruction of both armies- many are unsure what caused the abrupt explosion that incinerated all combatants and tore the crack in Ord Coridari's crust. However, it was the heat of this explosion that created the crystals deep in the Great Coridarian Rift that has allowed the world to be so bountiful.

The Haleigh Scurry was a race to Haleigh when a poor prospector found gold on the planet. The Republic sent warships to maintain order and lay claim to the gold veins, despite the fact that Haleigh was not a Republic world. It became a pitched battle when all sorts came from across the Galaxy to strike rich only to find the Republic barring access. The warships were recalled when the Senate ruled that the occupation of Haleigh was unjust, but Colonel Lan Hirget remained behind to wage guerilla warfare against the arriving prospectors who he felt were intentionally promoting anarchy against the Republic. He was notoriously successful in driving them off, and the Republic warships returned and Haleigh became a Republic world.

Hmmm. Whatever it was that wrecked everything during the battle with the Sith, Rianna thinks might the destruction she had seen in her vision. And if it's actually some sort of item, and Rand knows about it somehow...that certainly is not something he should get.

Rianna can think of nothing more to try and look up, though, so she'll return to her own quarters and attempt to sleep.

The Archives can also tell you that it is theorized that the explosion was a natural occurence, albeit a highly coincidental one (or an act of fate if you believe such).

Hmmm. Well, okay, but she doesn't really buy that explanation. Since what could naturally cause an explosion like that?

Ord Coridari has volcanic regions (though historically the military base was not located in one), and since the explosion, the Great Coridarian Rift is sometimes known to have eruptions in the depths of the mines.

Hmm. Well, I suppose. But she still doesn't believe that it could have been natural - something had to have caused it 😛

Rianna will be sticking to the theory of 'the Sith did it,' it would seem. Moving on then...

The next day, you are woken by Myraline knocking and calling your name through the door.

"Rianna? Are you awake?" she asks, in her usual motherly tone.

"I am now..." she says, not liking being woken up. She'll go open the door to see what Myraline wants.

"Master Yoda has summoned you," Myraline explains.
