Yeah, I've played FFXIV. Trust me. The misgivings on it are warranted.

I can't say that I can agree with anything you've really said here. One of FFXIV's main focuses as a game, according to the designers, is to create a grand world that players can escape into for hours on end with a great emphasis on exploration of the environment. To that end, I'm not sure how you can see the atmosphere of the setting as anything but a crucial component of the game. The atmosphere of the setting has the capacity to greatly add to the enjoyment of the exploration of and general travel through the setting, and what is clearly highly captivating art design and composition, as far as what the video demonstrates, speaks quite highly for the kind of experience you can expect to get when playing through the game.

With regards to the tutorial's placement in the demo, I could perhaps see your point if it had been the entirety of the demonstration. Assuming that the designers wanted to give attendants a general idea of what the game would be like, what matters is that the entire demonstration, and that every single aspect of it collectively, were able to do so. That the tutorial segment alone doesn't do that does nothing to detract from the quality of the demonstration, and even then I'd say that it would certainly add to that intent to an extent; not only would it add to the participants' understanding of the combat system when testing out the main aspects of the gameplay, but it would also introduce the player to some of the basic, fundamental elements of the gameplay which usually acts as a basis for the gameplay throughout the entire MMO experience.

Aside from the fact you are obviously trolling, as it happens that WAS the entire demonstration. Slow, boring, pointless, pathetic. I don't care if you agree or not as you are so clearly in the wrong.

The GW2 demo was better- 100% fact. I'll be ignoring any more comments you make on that.

Again, everything you've said here is completely incorrect. That was not the entire demonstration; it also included the opening cinematic, an in-game cutscene, tutorial and non-tutorial combat with multiple classes, one of the starting town areas, as well as the field, as well as some quests, and again, the basic, fundamental aspects of the gameplay, and the general look and feel of the world are elements that are not exclusive to the opening aspects of the game.

The GW2 demo on the other hand depicted a world that was comparatively completely lacking in captivating design, and I didn't find the action based gameplay that impressive at all; certainly nothing that seperates it from the standard action game. It seems people are so impressed with it largely because it's the first MMO to take that action based gameplay direction to the extent that it has done, when again, the more slowly paced less cinematic command based style of gameplay that FFXI delivered and FFXIV is incorporating is not an objectively bad thing, and as Spoony even alluded to with a different example, I hardly see how judging the non MMO-specific elements of the game within the confines of the MMO genre really qualifies as a universal, objective measure of the game's worth, which is what people seem to be doing. An objective approach to analysing GW2's merits would realise how its gameplay really doesn't stand out at all when taking into consideration videogaming as a whole.

And aside from that I didn't find any other aspect of its demo too appealing; I hugely dislike player choice based storytelling that they seem to be implementing as an example, especially within the MMO format.

This, nobody needs to know anything about either game to accept that the GW2 stuff was far more entertaining as a Demo. The common, slow and boring FF stuff was blown out of the water. Their lucky that theres loving fans such as Aede who look past product quality and drool over the franchise itself regardless of how good it is.

Just ignore him.

Hey, I am ordinarily a JRPG and Final Fantasy fangirl and I think that FFXIV looks like shit and GW2 is going to be amazing.

However, I played FFXI and it was shit, and I've been in the beta for FFXIV for the past month and it's very much not good. It's just as boring and broken as FFXI was, possibly even more so. It does not look, feel, or play anything like a completed game and it comes out in a week. There is a huge problem there.

And 😂 GW2 "lacking in captivating design"...yeah...okay.

It's funny how you say this as if you have some kind of point to make when it's exactly that kind of quirky, fantastical art design that makes the Final Fantasy games so pleasing to the eye and such a beautiful series.

This appears to be an appeal to ridicule more so than anything else, using the concept of a catperson and setting it up in a ridiculous light as if it somehow detracts from the point being argued.

Reported for the comments you have made about my butt btw.

I love you Nebaris. You're so entertaining. You're also wrong, though. I've always been confused about how you can take something completely relative like "captivating" and use it in an objective manner.

In this case, something being "quirky and fantastical" does not automatically equate to being "pleasing". If I made a game where you played as a walking pile of feces, I'd certainty get points for being "creative", but that hardly means that my idea is a "pleasing" one.

There's nothing quirky about catgirls. At all.

3 reports equate to a temporary ban, friend. You're on your second as it stands and if I hear anything more out of you I will be forced to report you for the third time and the administrative staff will have no choice but to temporarily remove you from these boards. I would tread very carefully if I were you.

Actually, it's 3 official warnings, generally. Reports only guide us mods to the situation so we can decide whether a warning is warranted. I would suggest you lose the hostility now, Aede, or you'll be awarded your first warning.

Man Neb, you've got some stones to be threatening anyone considering thats your hundred and fiftieth sock. Geez, gotta love ya for it...

There's no proof it's a sock. And Aede, put a sock in it. Your attitude is extremely tiresome, and do not try and dictate how this forum is run.

And the app is pretty cool. Pity it won't work on my phone (I don't have an iPhone nor an Android), but ah well, no big deal there 😛 However, AUCTION HOUSE. About damn time. I have waaaaaaay too much stuff and that'd make selling it so much easier.
