Blimey, didn't expect this so soon:

That's some more friends I can try and talk into it.

Did you read it?
Anyone who purchases Guild Wars 2 can now play it on both PC and Mac.
Last sentence of the first paragraph 😛 You don't have to already own it.

Also, I had figured I could use the asura gate in the Chantry of Secrets to get to Orr. Nope! I'm the hero and second in command of the Pact yet can't use the gate since I'm not a member of the Order of Whispers? Pffft.
And of course the Priory is way out in the middle of nowhere, which doesn't help a whole lot...and it costs 3 and a half freaking silver to waypoint from Bloodtide Coast to Cursed Shore. Aaaaargh.

Fantastic news about the Mac version, definitely gonna get it now. But why is the beta only for the people who already own GW2? Would love to test it
It's not that sort of beta, really. I guess they've already done internal testing and they don't need general game testing like the betas (and, in all fairness, the first two weeks of release) provided.
They've simply made GW2 a dual-available game; you buy it, you get it for both PC and Mac. But because the Mac version may have issues for a while, they are calling it a beta.

No, I saw the news on IGN, and only skimmed it, my bad.

Ah, so if I go and buy it in the stores tomorrow, and start playing, will these be my real characters? Not "beta specific" characters that later get deleted?
Yup, they'll be real and permanent and equally available on either platform.

The OoW got the best real estate in early. That's allllll part of their secret power.
Actually, it must be said, the OoW doesn't get a great time in the game. The Vigil has the outright military force and the Priory has their secret weapons but the whole 'sneaky manipulators who date back older than all other organisations and have aeons of secret knowledge of the past' schtick that Whispers is meant to have doesn't materialise, as far as I have yet seen. I only joined them for GW: Nightfall nostalgia; if I were a new player they would not impress much.
Just finally got jewelcrafting to 400. I'll say this - while it's certainly possible to max a crafting discipline on a character where that's all you've done, it's much harder than it'd be otherwise. You can't buy karma recipes, which give damn good experience. Getting from 375 to 400 took a while.
Still, that's two complete! As I've apparently lost my goddamn mind, I've decided I'm going to max out all eight crafting disciplines. I've already made good headway into artificer (around the 130s) and cooking (just past 100), and I've made a start on the others.
I will never, ever have any money in this game. Damn you crafting for being so addicting!
Ok, just got back to my elementalist and started leveling yesterday. REALLYYYyyy tricky guy to level up. The work-to-accomplishment ratio feels a bit skewed compared to my warrior but I'm giving still giving it a go. Hit 25 today (10 yesterday) and decided on going the earth/fire-bleed build for a while til I hit 30s wherein I'll go full staff-lightning/arcane (due to runspeed boost) and just run with my friends.
So we went and did a few jump puzzles tonight (the one in Mount Maelstrom is awesome - less jumpy, more a PoP-style puzzle), and one of the ones we did was Griffon-somthing Run in Lornar's Pass.
So of course at the very type we decided we needed to start dancing, because what else are going you going to at the top of a mountain?
I think this is the funniest screenshot I've taken in the game so far.
Did some WvW earlier.
(by some I mean I was in it for like three hours.)
In our efforts to take down one of the other servers, we built seven trebuchets and were bombing the hell out of their fort's walls and gate. When I logged off we were winning by a pretty big amount - we essentially knocked Crystal Desert out of the fight entirely and it was Dragonbrand trying to take over some of our territory (and never managing to hold it for longer than it took us to get a team over to recapture stuff).
Still cracking up over the trebuchet army, though.
It's so much fun. Did you ever get to try the beta?
And part of why we're doing so well in WvW right now is because we're a tier 1 server that got knocked down to tier 2 by the other two t1 servers teaming up against us 😛 The first few matchups we wiped the floor with everyone. So now we just have to hope that this week's match goes well enough that we're back up in the top three.
I almost feel sorry for the two we're against right now.
Farming in this game is so useless, unless you plan on going for full-out magic find gear and sacrificing a lot of damage and survivability. I did craft myself a magic find set, and it wasn't until I runed it all up with superior pirate/traveler runes and was using the MF buffs from food my norn made that I started seeing any difference. I've got a ton of Opal crystals, I'll make a set of MF jewelry as well and see if it helps any. Still, I got two golds last night in Orr, which considering that up until that point I'd only gotten 4-5 the whole game, is pretty good.
Also one was a piece of armor that was 1) useful and 2) a skin I like, which is rare 😄 I had transmuted my MF set back to my dragonfly armor (because the karma tailoring recipe is ****ing ridiculous), previewed the pants I got with it, and went "...I really like this." and so I am wearing it.
Now if only the exotics I had gotten for completing Straits of Devastation been things that were at all useful for me...a warhorn, medium armor piece, and t5 crafting materials I'm already overstocked on. Wooo. Give me some damn gossamer so I can start making my exotic armor!
BTW, Ush, I don't know how far you've gotten on dungeons, but you'll hate Sorrow's Embrace. There's a rather Mallyx-like boss in there. It's the first time I've been completely stonewalled by something in this game. We couldn't beat it even respeccing ourselves as best we could with being unable to actually reset trait allocations.
