The only area that John has the edge in is firearms. It may take a single, well placed, bullet to drop the bat, but a single, well placed, batarang leaves McClane naked. Without his guns McClane has nothing that can defend against the Bat.
Whether or not John can get a head shot off in time is highly debatable. I'm not arguing that he has the skill i'm just arguing that Batman has the skill and awareness enough to disarm McClane before he even knows it.

Sorry, but is that stated, word for word in the movie? Oh yeah, is it stated in Batman Begins? Its the original batsuit, whch means Batman will be that much slower. BB begins only, and DH1 only.
McClane unloads on Batman, Batman goes down, stunned, McClane walks over with his Beretta and puts two in Batmans computer.
