The movie wasn't big because of Pratt. 😂

Jurassic Park is a big franchise overall. Plus dinosaurs.

I don't know, the franchise got hit with the trilogy curse pretty hard. Though I guess this movie proved that if JP3 couldn't kill it, nothing can.

Guess this weekend's box office numbers proved that the people want more JP/JW which is pretty cool even though I didn't care for the movie that much.

I'm still blown away this beat Avengers considering this was a dead franchise.

Insane Marketing Campaign backed by a completely awesome movie.

i think, ultimately, what this movie did right was making it a fun movie. I bet you could've put anyone in for Pratt and it would still be at similar level of success.

Hey? The last movie did pretty bad at the box office. But yeah clearly people wanted a good dinosaur movie.

But, my point was Pratt is a huge name now thanks to GOTG and JW. Marvel kicked off his career.

On another note, I find it funny how this made in 1 weekend what Godzilla made in it's whole run.

That godzilla movie was a wasted opportunity IMO. Not happy Edwards is doing the SW spin off.

I don't think the marketing campaign was nearly as big as the Avengers campaign

GotG did not kick off his career to make him a big name.

That was definitely Parks and Recreation that did that.

Not so sure about that, while his work on P&R is applauded, GoTG probably brought his face to a lot more people. It also helped that he lost the tubby-guy look for GoTG and was on the "Sexiest Man" list shortly after GoTG. Haven't crunched numbers, so I could be wrong here.

He's probably going to be the next action-y film guy; wouldn't be surprised if he also gets into the romantic-comedy market to cash in on his high female-appeal.

I've heard he's being heavily considered to play Indy in the Indiana Jones rebooted\whatever.

Actually a good casting and a far better choice than LaBeouf. Ridiculously better.

What's the point of making a big name when your other movies flop. After Avengers, Renner, Downey, and Hemsworth movies all bombed. They are not traditional A listers in terms of Box office power.

Hemsworth got Snow White and the Huntsman and Rush after Thor/Avengers.

Renner's had the Bourne Legacy and one of the stars of MI now. (And Renner's not even got his own Marvel franchise, so no idea why you brought him up).

Downey got Sherlock Holmes right after IM.

Pratt got Jurassic World a year after GOTG. He's a massive name now, thanks to BOTH. But Marvel got his name out there first.

So saying ALL their other movies flopped, and that they're not big names working on big franchises (outside of Marvel) is a massive misstatement.

Saying something made close to doesn't matter. It's final number is 276 M dollars. That's lower than ALL the previous movies even WITH an A lister like you say. Matt Damon was never in a big budget movie like Avengers and Renner was. And STILL managed to make less than all the others.

Renner isn't a draw. I already provided a good article on why they are BRINGING BACK Matt Damon. It's the very reason why Renner isn't the lead guy in most of his movies.
